Cath-

I never talked to a dietician either. I was given written guidelines that told me how much protein to eat daily, to limit carbs and take my supplements. Pretty easy, I thought and the best part is that it has worked like a charm!

I would like to think that each case of the switch would be different. Unlike the band, they are not inserting a standard instrument and since each person's length of intestine and amount of weight lost will be different, I am glad that things are being customized.

" Did you take zinc in the lead up to surgery? Did you have to go on fluids prior to surgery? Did you have to take a system cleansing formula prior to surgery? Are you allowed to take anything to alleviate the runs? "

I was just taking my standard multi vitamin before surgery and all of my prescription meds. I did not take anything special in preparation. I was not on liquids and I did not have any form of system cleansing, although that is standard practice with my surgeon now. He did not used to do it until he found an entire steak dinner in someone's tummy, then he decided that system cleaning out might be a good idea. I just had to stop eating at midnight the night before an afternoon surgery time. Regarding the runs, I do not take anything to alleviate it because it is not normally a problem. If I do notice a bit of " looseness " (sorry, guys) I will just increase the amount of fiber in my diet (ie, an apple or some porridge, etc.) and then everything balances out. It is not something I have ever considered an issue. Things tend to be a bit looser early postop but that seems to right itself after a couple of weeks.

You know I am happy to answer any questions that you have. Have a great meeting on Saturday! Wish I could be there!

Warm Regards, of the Cakes
