Guest guest
I would give them charcoal when they go in the water, just wait two hours before they eat or take supplements, cause it will absorb the good stuff too.nancy jSubject: Re: Tourette's/PANDAS chlorine questions...detox?To: mb12 valtrex Date: Tuesday, June 22, 2010, 8:59 PM My twins love to swim but we are affected by chlorine. It makes the TS tic symptoms (especially vocal) increase. Yes, I could stop allowing them to swim but they love it and are on swim team this year so it is really not an great option. So how do you detox/remove the chlorine build up? We do epsom baths but they only mildly help. Are there any supps that help remove chlorine? Would activated charcoal help since they maybe ingesting some of it? Any advice would help greatly!!! Thanks, Jen

Guest guest
I don't know if you've tried this and I don't really have a lot of experience here... my daughter has a coming and going tic, we think maybe PANDAS but... anyway...I am not sure if you were who said this or another poster... but that the tics are worse when the child is tired... is there any way to get him to take a nap at all before the swim meet, just to help him get thru the meet with less issue? That doesn't really resolve the problem so much, but maybe for today, while you figure something out, it could put a bandaid on the situation temporarily? What does the baking soda do? My sons symptoms appear moreso at evening into bedtime. Would this type of smoothie help then? I am dreading tonight b/c my one son's tics get worse at night and tonight when his tics are the highest he has a swim meet, plus he has a morning practice too. We have also noticed his OCD type behaviors are on the rise as he is very hard to get him to change once he is set on it. Is there any other daily routines that you do for PANDAS/TS/OCD kiddos? We currently are on Feingold, mag supplements, and a multi-vitamin. Thanks again for all the great comments! Jen > > > > My twins love to swim but we are affected by chlorine. Guest guest
Two popular methyl donors would be methyl-b12 (injection, nasal or sublingual) or SAM-e. I *think* that that MSM thing that is with glucosamine in the joint supplement section of the pharmacy might be one too.Out of curiosity, I just googled " GABA " and " tourette's " and there seems to be some info out there to be read... I have been using GABA on myself and my son for a few weeks, and my daughter for about a week... it is helpful in mood disorders, anxiety, seizures, etc... so I figured, maybe tourette's... I don't think I'd try it out before the meet tonight but maybe you can read up on GABA and see if it's something you want to try. I started with " GABAcalm " a combo product that is chewable/sublingual. Now we are up to 375 mg in the am of just regular GABA (forgot to give it to them this morning OOPS!) and 750 mg for me. It is pretty inexpensive... SAM-e is NOT inexpensive... so GABA might be worth a try first. You might want to wait to see if anyone else has experience with GABA and tourette's... I know Christel on here said one of her children " went nuts " on GABA, so YMMV! (your mileage may vary) :-) Yes, we still do naps almost everyday to help w/ the tics plus the boys are in tennis on Tues and Thurs evening so this again helps w/fatigue. I would say they nap 5 out of 7 days and for 7yr olds this is pretty good. They will still sleep about 2-3hrs when they nap. Now about methyl donors...I have no idea what this is as we are fairly new to biomed. I have been doing it a little over a year but am still new to supps as we did diet intervention first. Guest guest
it's not that you need to remove clorine, it sounds like your childs yeast is bad and the clorine is killing the bacteria and making room for yeast. you can always do FRESH water swimming as well, ocean, lakes, pool at home treated with salt Re: Tourette's/PANDAS chlorine questions...detox? Guest guest
Salt treated pool is usually just using salt to make chlorine (there are other types of pools but we have salt so I know about it) So you are still coming into contact with chlorinated water, just less chlorine smell and no chlorine tablets floating around in a floatie... the machinery (solonoid I think it's called) just uses the salt to split the NaCl into chlorine molecules. I was looking online and saw that people really do make swimming ponds in their yards without treatment, they just use certain plant life to keep bacteria in check (sounds like a lot of work and room for error IMO tho) it's not that you need to remove clorine, it sounds like your childs yeast is bad and the clorine is killing the bacteria and making room for yeast. you can always do FRESH water swimming as well, ocean, lakes, pool at home treated with salt Re: Tourette's/PANDAS chlorine questions...detox? Guest guest
we simpley had a pool with water and instead of putting in cholorine tablets we use epson salt in the floaty.....works for the ocean!
