Hi All!

School starts Monday, and two weeks after school starts I move into

my new apartment!!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally found, with the help of mom and dad a wheelchair accessible

apartment! So, I am going to take the plunge and attempt to do the

independent living thing for the first time since the strokes. I am

really excited! I am nervous about how to do little things though,

but I have great support, and I'm sure that I'll figure things out as

I go.

Oh...Women's Health update...I went to see the Reproductive Endo. He

is running a bunch of bloodwork tests to see if I have hormonal

problems or a bleeding disorder (Thats the last thing I need right

now!)and wants me to have some diagnostic imaging.

:-)

Hey Jen!

Way cool you're flying the coop and starting both school and an apartment....A huge achievement. Please don't get stressed out though as that will make you feel better. Even when we have good things happen in our lives, any change can bring on hidden stresses. You have an awesome sense of humor, so when the little things pop up, I am sure you'll handle them just fine. Just keep it simple and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Where are you going to school? How close is your apt.?

How's Mom?????

I'm waiting for my labs from Lynch by the end of the week. My migraines have actually improved since I stopped the Zomig and started taking (on the advice of this group!!!!)B-2. I actually went 48 hours w/o a migraine this week! YEA!

I'm still having my little seizures though (and you were right, Lynch blew them off because they didn't last that long.....ugh) In addition, I've developed a new symptom. It's hard to describe and I hope someone can tell me what it is. Sometimes I feel like my throat is closing and I have to struggle to swallow.......what the h**l is that!!!!

Have you had an EEG and EMG? I am assuming if so, it was done at Hahneman. I think since I'm having my mini seizures and neuropathic pain both would be warranted and I'm going to ask/insist I get it done when I speak with Lynch. I understand from my son and my sister Dianne that an EMG is a blast.......lol.

Hey what's up with the mito old folk party at Maripats'?

Carol,

I have been a student at Temple University for the past couple of

years with a few medical leaves in between. My degree...someday

whenever I finally graduate is going to be in political science and

economics. I was in the honors program; however, I became an honors

drop out. I decided to lower my scholastic stress a few notches.

The apartment is a block off of Widner U's campus in Chester. My

windows have a nice view of the campus and the frat houses! lol...No

shortage of entertainment there! I am going to attempt a transfer to

Widner(My GPA is high enough it shouldn't be a problem)if I can get

the $$$ from the financial aid department. It would be easier than

having to take the train to school every day; however, it is only an

hour long commute from the apt. to Temple. It was SOOO hard to find a

wheelchair friendly place that wasn't just a few bars and a wide

front door. The bathroom is big and has the lowered mirrors and

sink, and bars, the kitchen has the knock out sink and the low

cabinets and all of the closets have the low bars. Bonus...the

laundry room is at the end of my hall!

Mom is doing well. She, dad, and the crew are heading up to Maine

for a few days next week!!! She has lots of appointments for herself

an the kids...lots of stress.

I get the swallowing thing too. It is frustrating, but if you tilt

your head forward, it is sometimes easier to swallow. Whatever you

do...If you are having that problem don't let them give you muscle

relaxers. They did that to me when I went in the hospital with the

first SLE, and I started aspirating on my saliva because I couldn't

swallow.

Old people meeting? Do I qualify for that? I'm not old! Plus, you

guys aren't old...ummm...just ah...little more..umm

experienced...yeah, more experienced!!! I know that mom is planning

on being there.

Congrats on the new apartment!!! I'm sure you will be able to work everything

out and be very happy there. I want to wish you luck on school starting too.

Try to enjoy without overdoing. It is a

very tough thing to learn to do, but a lot of us have found out the hard way

that we can't push past a certain point or we really pay healthwise.

Good luck with the apartment and school. Remember to take things

slow and don't be afraid to ask for help! I learned the hard way when I

got my first apartment!!!!! I know things will go well for you!

Hey Jen...

I am familiar with that area of Chester and actually the area around the Widener Campus is beautiful.

My husband lived in Parkside which is the next town over from Chester and attending undergrad at Widener. He is taking his LAST SEMESTER....YEAH...this fall at Villanova for his MBA. He's 43 and a late bloomer educationally....although I think it benefitted him to wait as I don't think he even remembers the late 70s, early 80s!!!! Plus he gets awesome grades which wouldn't have happened when he was younger.

Did you say Maine!!!! I am jealous....I'm going to Maine next month...I grew up there and my parents still live there. I was unbelievably fortunate to grow up in a house that is on the beach in Old Orchard Beach. My parents have a hotel right on the water. When I go home, I stay in the hotel, not in the house!

Tell your folks hi when they get back!
