Guest guest
My daughter was diagnosed with plagio at her 4 month check-up 2 weeks ago. Her ped is referring us to a specialist to see about a helmet. I have some questions that I'm hoping that someone can answer. :-) Are the helmets heavy? I'm concerned that she'll have trouble lifting her head when she's on her tummy. Also, do the kids have trouble sleeping with them on? My biggest concern is that once the helmet therapy is done, is there a chance of reoccurance? I would hate to go through all this only to end up with another flat spot. :-(
Guest guest
Hi, Welcome to the group. Do you know what type of helmet your baby will be getting? What place are you using? DOCbands only weigh 6 oz and STARbands only weigh 8 oz. I'm not sure what locally made hemlets weigh. I don't think much more than a DOC or STAR band. Most babies don't have any problems sleep with their bands/helmats on. A small percentage of babies do need some time to adjust to their band/helmet during sleep time. Regression can occur but it's pretty rare. --- In Plagiocephaly , " alm030304 " <kmclain@t...> wrote: > My daughter was diagnosed with plagio at her 4 month check-up 2 weeks > ago. Guest guest
Hi! Welcome to the group. To answer you questions: The helmet weighs about 6 oz. it isn't too heavy. Does your daughter have Torticollis? My son didn't have a problem with the weight except for the sleeping. I think he had a problem getting comfortable. Some children don't have a problem though. After the helmet therapy, there is only a 1% chance for regression. Usually after the helmet therapy, the child is hardly on their backs and their skulls are not as pliable. Guest guest
Hi and Welcome! I see that has already addressed your concerns. At just over 4 months, your daughter is a younger baby that should receive excellent correction from a helmet or band if she is recommended for one! Do you know what type of helmet or band she would be getting? We have a very large and active group - perhaps there is someone here who has gone to the same facility or specialist you have, and can provide some feedback. Please let us know if we can answer additional questions or concerns you may have. When you have time, we have a large photos section of the group that may interest you, as well as lots of info in the files, links, database, and polls sections.
