Guest guest
Our daughter got her DOC band at age 9 months. She was moderate-mild brachy with a tiny bit of L/R asymmetry. The first four weeks or so were spent correcting the asymmetry and then they began to make adjustments to correct the brachy. She went from a few mm of asymmetry to zero, and her cephalic index (the Brachy measurement) started at more than 2 standard deviations, after four weeks ws down to one standard deviation, and she will have her exit cast and final measurements on Tuesday, which is also her first birthday. She has now outgrown the band, and we expect her cephalic index to be close to 0 standard deviations. This is with only three months of treatment time. Obviously the earlier the better, and the less severe the case the better, but 'older' babies like ours do great with the band and brachy CAN be treated effectively. Just remember, you are trading a few dollars and few months of trouble for a benefit that will last a lifetime. Whenever I'd feel down, or our daughter was fussy, just thinking about that would put everything back into perspective. Hang in there, you are absolutely doing the best thing for your kid. Guest guest
Lucia started at 6 months and 3/4. I saw imrpovements after one week, and in fact she needed adjustment right away. Now, after 2.5 weeks, her head looks much more round than before. We have been told she will ahve to wear 2 to 3 months. Valeria > Hi again, > > Sorry I'm being such a board hog.. Guest guest
Mia - My daughter Sydney didn't get her local PPO helmet until 9 1/2 months. She has been wearing it for 3 weeks tomorrow (17 days full time) We have already seen amazing improvement. She was diagnosed as severe and was given a poor prognosis for correction by her orthotist and plastic surgeon. My daughter also has L and R tort (our Ped swears this is impossible - but what does she know) she is undergoing PT for this and gross motor. I am so sorry that your are having such a hard time with your band - I really feel it will get better with time. We are not near a CT site or you bet we would be using the DOC - our orthotist is wonderful, but CT seems to be great. What I'm trying to say is - I'm sure your son's care is in the best hands and with a little time I'm confident he will settle in and you will begin to see improvement. Hang in there - We're thinking of you guys!! - St. Louis Sydney (PPO helmet(started 5-10-04 at 9 1/2 months) - severe Brachy/ (L/R) tort) > Hi again, > > Sorry I'm being such a board hog..
