Guest guest
Hi, My son Josh (6 1/2 mnths) received his starband a week and a half ago. He has a red spot on the right side of his head that doesn't go away in the hour that we have the band off. I had him re-adjusted on wednesday but am noticing it getting worse. (almost a blister like). The orthotist told us to treat with Neosporin. Is this common? Should I leave the band off longer? Thanks in advance, Lena
Guest guest
Lena, Welcome to the group. Yes, you should leave his band off! Leave it off until that red mark is COMPLETELY gone. If you don't you risk your son getting a skin break down. If that happens he could lose a week or more out of his band. It is very common to need an adjustment or a few of them in the beginning of treatment. Do you know how much experience your ortho has with treating plagio babies with a STARband? --- In Plagiocephaly , " lenaemens " <lenaemens@y...> wrote: > Hi, > > My son Josh (6 1/2 mnths) received his starband a week and a half > ago. Guest guest
Hi Lena, I just wanted to welcome you to the group and second everything said about his red spot. I hope it clears up soon! As much as it stinks to leave it off him when you've just got it, he'll loose much more treatment time if the spot does breakdown. We were also advised to use neosporin on one spot. Please keep us updated on Josh. Where are you located? I'm sure others have used the same facility and can give you input on their experience. , mom to Hannah, DOC #3 3/30 Cape Cod, Ma --- In Plagiocephaly , " lenaemens " <lenaemens@y...> wrote: > Hi, > > My son Josh (6 1/2 mnths) received his starband a week and a half > ago. Guest guest
Hi Lena, I am also new to the group and my son is 61/2 mos. as well. We had similar problems with our STARband and have had to have it adjusted 4 times so far. Our last adjustment seems to be working well, not leaving bad red marks on him. Our son had a very large red bruise/ knot over his ear that is just now going away. Our orthotist also said to treat with neosporin but still insisted to leave the band on. I spoke with and a couple others in the group and they said to make sure that it is kept off in order to heal. We followed what they said because our orthotist has only been doing this for about 6 months and it healed nicely. There is still a light red spot over his ear, but it is definitely a million times better than it was. I would also like to know where you are located. Well, hang in there. We've had a rough start too, but it will get better! We already can see a small difference in 's head!!! a, mom to , 6 1/2 months, plagio, STARband > > > Hi, > > > > My son Josh (6 1/2 mnths) received his starband a week and a half > > ago. Guest guest
Hi Lena, I'm by no means an expert as we've just started on this road ourselves, but, when my son was banded he developed a red spot the next morning that took a week to go away. We went in for an adjustment but were told to keep the band off until it went away. We finally got it back on & had to go for another adjustment. Now we're in the clear. I think I would call the orthotist back & explain what it looks like and keep the band off until it goes away. We were told that a light pink is ok but if it's blistering I would think that can't feel too good with the helmet on and if left untreated could possibly get worse to the point where he can't wear the helmet for awhile. Guest guest
Thanks so much for all of the advise! We left Josh's starband off all day Sunday - by the end of the day the swelling and redness were gone! I check it a few times a day - I'm being a bit neurotic - but all is well. We are located in Tampa, FL and received our Starband by Kast Orthotics and Prosthetics in Clearwater, FL. We had an adjustment done today and are already seeing improvement in just 2 weeks! Thanks again! Lenastripes6060 <taime@...> wrote: Lena,Welcome to the group. Yes, you should leave his band off! Leave it off until that red mark is COMPLETELY gone.
