Guest guest
SOunds all too familiar (those low readings). Labs that are in the LOW normal can mean thyroid problems (early stage). I have read fairly recently that the lab values have been re-evaluated last year, so what may have been LOW normal may actually be out of range now. I would definately get a complete chem lab done and ask for adrenal values (if they will do it - my doc laughed at me). It's a place to start and get some meds. The gals here really feel natural thyroid meds are the best. They can help you with dosage etc... Maybe you will have better luck in getting them prescribed. I can't find anyone here (or anyone taking new patients) who will do it. It's a bloody shame. Anyway, you can also start doing some other things to get you on a path to good health. This is my personal opinion, so you can chunk it or take it and run : Eliminate ALL refined products which include white & brown sugar, white flour, white rice etc... Potatoes, carrots and the like should no longer be staples in your diet. They all turn to glucose and cause your poor body to pump out insulin to bring sugar levels down. It's very taxing on the body (any body healthy or not). Eat lots of fresh veggies and 100% whole wheat (although you said you had a gluten allergy?). You should be able to find good alternatives at health food stores for gluten-free stuff (a pain in the butt, but worth it). No more caffeine or fake sugar sweeteners. I found an incredible product that will substitute for sugar and also as a treat for sugar cravings. It's call panela (also known as turbinado sugar, Jaggery, Gur, Raspadura, Piloncillo, Panocha or Penuche). Here's a link if you are interested:http://www.sugarindia.com/panela.htm I have tried for a long time to get my mother-in-law to try to do this, but she just gets aggravated with me. She too has thyroid problems, diahrrea, high blood pressure etc... Her husband is a type 2 diabetic and just this evening he ate 5 pieces of white bread with margarine (bad stuff) with kraft dinner on it - YUCK! It's like putting paste in your veins and arteries. He too has a whole slew of health problems, but they continue to complain about their $400 prescription bills/month (and that's after insurance pays their portion). I just know in my heart they could cut that bill in half and start feeling better if they would just try. Carbos are addictive. It's hard to break what tastes so yummy and good. They are also very bad for people with thyroid problems (and in some cases have caused sluggish thyroid conditions with years of eating them). My husband is a healthy guy, but had problems with diahrrea and when he cut down on carbs, he was amazed at how the diahrrea just disappeared. He was so happy that he actually turns down the cookies and junk that his mother tries to push his way when when he's over visiting. He LOVES sweets, but he knows what's best for him and I am proud of him. Anyway, I don't mean to preach, but I have seen such good results with myself (lost all pregancy weight even though hypothyroid), my husband feels better, and my own mother lost 22 pounds and has had the best Cholesterol labs in years. Her doctor was flabbergasted. Just remember to keep red meat to a minimum and lots of chicken, turkey, fish etc.. is good. How about bacon and eggs for dinner as a treat?? YUM! Good luck to you!! Keep us posted on the labs. > > > > ooopsss when I said what I said, I guess I should have > included > > > the fact that some cannot squat. Guest guest
My diet stinks. I can't eat red meat or pork. Both of them make me hurt like a fiend. Maybe that will clear some with Adrenal and Thyroid support? It would make my diet more interesting. I eat chicken breast and ground turkey with some fish tossed in. I have to be careful with fish, sometimes it gives me hives. Not a nice feeling in the middle of a good sleep to wake up red as a tomato and itching like crazy. I am diabetic and try to control it with proteins and lower carb meals. As for the gluten free products I mostly leave them alone. They tend to have way to many re-finded carbs for my body. Most gluten free breads are made with white rice flour and other white refined starches. That will give me a massive yeast infection through out my whole body, not to mention what it does to blood sugars. I am allergic to potatoes plus they have a bad effect on my insulin levels. I have suspected for some time that some of the remaining problems I have with diarrhea is from too many carbs or maybe rather the type of carb. Sometimes I will eat corn Tortilla chips when I eat out, the naco/cheese kind and the next day I feel really bad. I suspect part of that might be an allergy to corn. Seem to have problems when I eat corn. I have to go upstairs now and drudge up something to eat. I have just discovered I probably have an allergy to eggs. I keep getting sinus infections. I have had a cold this week and it was getting better but I ate eggs at two meals yesterday and I am full of mucous in my sinues and throat again. I suspected that was an egg thing for the past couple of weeks. I will wait a couple of days and try eggs again and see what happens. I have a sick and stubborn mother who reminds me of your family too. She refuses to listen to anyone. It is almost like she likes to be miserable to have something to complain over. Thanks for you thoughts, they reinforced some of mine and gave me a clearer picture of what is causing the remainder of my problems. I have been gluten free for over 3 years but seem to be having some of my problems returning. I am sure it is from my adrenal and tryroid issues. Guest guest
DHEA is another adrenal hormone has helped a couple of diabetics I know by stabilizing blood sugar levels more..allergies and sensitivities, immune system, irritable bowel and even diabetes can be adrenal related and everything can improve when your adrenals get stronger. > My diet stinks. Guest guest
Speaking of DHEA, my former doc had me on DHEA and progesterone, she had it compounded for me at a specialty pharmacy, but when I stopped going to her I decided I could just got to the health food store and get DHEA in a bottle and buy the progesterone that you rub on. The new doc told me that she will also be having mine compounded at that specialty pharmacy. She said that the cream progesterone is not absorbed well through the skin, so I am not getting enough of it and the DHEA that I have been taking from the health food store is not easily broken down and used by my body. She said the one they formulate has something in it that helps break it down and make it use able. I thought that was interesting as that is the only thing I have changed from what the former doc had me taking. Well of course the synthroid I was taking that didn't seem to help me at all. I noticed an e-mail I read earlier about someone taking DHEA and thier pain going away. Since I have switched to the health food stores sources I have gotten a lot of my pain back that was gone. I went to wal-mart today and hurt so bad walking through there I turned into a real pain in my husband's behind. I just wanted to find what I needed and get out of there. I hate feeling like this. Thanks for everyones help. I am sure like everyone else that we all feel this is a life savor by the time we find a group like this. I will be away for about a week. I am going to go no mail in the morning or late tonight. Guest guest
I think that a lot of vitamins etc are so extremely low quality that you barely get anything in them....I listened to a doctor on the radio and he said that we need to make sure we get pharmaceutical grade vitamins etc.......the compounding pharmacy is the best place to go I think...I haven't checked prices..but I am thinking tht what we get at walmart and some of the health food store stuff is junk. jmho Loriann > Speaking of DHEA, my former doc had me on DHEA and progesterone, she had it > compounded for me at a specialty pharmacy, but when I stopped going to her > I decided I could just got to the health food store and get DHEA in a bottle > and buy the progesterone that you rub on.
