Guest guest
Hi, I took my second dose of armour last night right before bed, I didn't sleep too soundly last night though, but don't know if it was the armour or if it's the fact that I got offered a job last night, and accepted (so I was excited because I've been waiting on the company for the last two weeks). So it may have been the excitement, but do you think that taking my second dose that late would give me energy in the middle of the night where I wake up and can't sleep. I felt great this morning though, even woke up early, didn't have that usual " hung over feeling " that I have had for the past couple of months. Another question for anyone who may know. I think I am hypo because I was fed soy formula as an infant, I was born with Hyaline Membrane disease and was very sick and not expect to live (supprised them all with my fight to live), I'm not sure if I couldn't have regular formula or it was just " thought " as better to give babies soy milk (my mother couldn't produce milk so couldn't breast feed). I was wondering that even though it seems it doesn't run in the family (although I have a strong suspicion that my grandmother had it and never new, she died of a heart attack and was very over weight, but also was from Alabama and cook very southern). I have an eight year old son who is a little plump and I am getting worried that he may by chance have slight hypo, but also could be all the junk food, I just remember at his age I was just a little pudgy, not too much but a little, but I slimmed down in middle school and have never really had a problem with weight, other then 10 pounds here or there (which are there now and I want to leave, lol). Does anyone know if it's possible that being fed soy as a child maybe changed something chemically in our bodies where we could pass on hypothyroid to our children? I think I will have him tested for it once we have insurance again, he also has a pretty raspy voice, and I have never had a problem with getting him to go to sleep, but he can be just a wild as any other 8 year old also. Gee, sorry I didn't mean to write a book here, was just curious what you guys thought. Thanks, Debra

Yesterday, when you mentioned you got your Armour and were going to take your second dose at bedtime I immediately wondered if it would keep you awaek...I know people on this list do this, but I personally could NEVER do this without interrupting my sleep..in additon, if you are going to take Armour before bed, I think you need to " work up to it " ...in other wods, get your body used to Armour and find out what your own personal reactions to an Armour dose are. There's really no reason for you to take that second dose so late. For example, I take my first half in the morning, and most of my second half by early to mid afternoon at the latest. Also note that you are getting T3 in Armour, and the T3 peaks in your blood within 2 hours. There is a possibility that the peak, which would occur during the night, might keep you awake. But the bottom line is that you have to experiment and see what works for you. Janie aka ThyroDiva
Guest guest
T3 is an active hormone so you may want to take it earlier in the day. Some people can take it right before bed though. Or maybe take a smaller does. Here is a link to about.com and a story on soy formula. They also have more info so you may want to go to the link: http://thyroid.about.com/cs/soysdownsides/a/soyformula.htm Soy Formula Complicates Hypothyroidism in Children Feb 12 2004 Research was published in January showing that a diet that consists solely of soy formula can cause TSH levels to remain high in infants who have congenital hypothyroidism, even when they are being treated with levothyroxine. The study looked at the impact of a soy formula diet on thyroid function in 78 infants who were born hypothyroid, a condition known as congenital hypothyroidism. Those infants who were fed strictly soy formula during their first year had a higher TSH levels after starting thyroid hormone replacement treatment than those infants on a non-soy diet. The median TSH levels after treatment began were 42.6 for those on a soy diet and 6.6 for those on a non-soy diet. These are substantial differences, and elevated TSH in infants may slow or impair cognitive and physical development. The soy formula infants also saw their TSH levels return to normal more slowly. After four months of treatment, almost two-thirds of the soy formula infants still had elevated TSH levels indicative of hypothyroidism, compared to only 17% of those on the non-soy diet. The infants on the soy formula took a median of 150 days to achieve a TSH level less than 10, while those on the non-soy diet saw TSH levels drop below 10 within 40 days. This research shows the potentially negative impact of soy formula in infants with hypothyroidism, and points to the further need for study on the connections between soy and thyroid function. Guest guest
Hi, Debra, Personally, I think that the lack of a good night's sleep was a combination of excitement over the new job and the Armour taken later in the evening. My Armour dose was increased about a month ago by 1/4 grain. I didn't think it would make that much difference, so I took one when I got home at about 8 PM. I slept fitfully -- waking, then falling asleep again, waking, sleeping. I have noticed that if I get that last dose late then I do not sleep well... I am still playing with this dosing schedule. I have no experience with the soy infant formulas, so cannot help you there.... Dianne
