Guest guest
Hi Caryn: I just came from a doctor’s visit where we talked about this very topic. Some docs are starting to believe that you can’t get rid of the strep low grade infection unless you remove the tonsils. There is a psychiatrist in TX who is actually having success in treating PANDAS this was. However, you have to know where the strep is hiding. My son’s is in his gut and while gamma or alpha strep in the gut do not cause strep throat, it doesn’t mean that his immune system is backing off. His strep titers are still high, even on antibiotics daily. We just changed to Biaxin, 500mg per day. What do you consider a high dose and how long before you beat it? The idea that your immune system is sure that there is an infection in your body, but the dr claims that there is not, but that your immunce system is mistaken does not fly with me. I believe that the infection is still there and that is why the immune system is reacting. We have not eliminated strep or PANDAS behaviors in my son yet, but I have eliminate several other autoimmune diseases in myself and my husband with long term, high dose antibiotic therapy.
