Hi Ginnie!

It will be a great support for your LIFESTYLE CHANGE!

Diet is a four letter word. (Some cat told me that.) We prefer to think

of it as a lifestyle change. You're going ot use the tools that Weight

Watchers provides for you to manage a healthy eating lifestyle and build

new, healthy habits! I have found that the people who truly adopt it as

a lifestyle change are more successful in the short and long term.

It may be semantics to some, but to me it's the best way to go into

this. You are making a positive change in your life that will help you

work towards better health, longer life, and more personal satisfaction!

to take hers and what they will have to do to hook up to me. We also have a

full day of testing the day before the transplant. We have a date also. It

is July 16 at 8:30 AM. I am going down this week with my doner to do that

dye test and will be back late Friday. We will either leave Monday evening

on the 14th or Tuesday in the early AM. We have to be there at 8:30 AM to

start our preop rounds. Please, please keep us in your prayers. If they

have to postpone for any reason, we will have to wait until next year to do

this. She has gone back to school and wants to be well by mid-August.

,

You are in our thoughts and prayers. Good luck to you and your lovely

friend. I was sitting here thinking about the meaning of the word " friend " ,

I'm sure that it has even more of a significant meaning to you now than ever

before. I decided to look up the definition in the dictionary and I thought

that maybe you'd be interested in it.

Friend:

1. " A person who one knows well and is fond of, to love, intimate associate,

close acquaintance " . 2. " A person who is on the same side in a struggle;

one who is not an enemy or foe; ally " . 3. " A person who is a supporter or

sympathizer " . 4. " A person who is being helpful, reliable " . And finally,

" To act as a friend to " , which, in your case I think pretty much says it

all. As I read through the definitions, I felt that all of these wonderful

things applied to your gracious and loving friend.

Good Luck to you both and stay in touch when you can!

Hi Jem,

You must have your hands more than full with two year old triplets :-) How

adorable they must be at that age. I want to welcome you to our group,

although saddened to hear you have been diagnosed with IgAN.

There are some good questions to ask your Nephrologist.

First, if you are not on an ace inhibitor medication, is he going to

prescribe one. They are pretty much standard treatment for IgAN.

Some good lab values to know are:

Serum Creatinine

Creatinine Clearance from a 24 hour urine

Urine protein

Hematocrit to make sure you are not anemic

What your blood pressure is

Are their any dietary restrictions or recommendations based on your lab

values.

Also, a good place to start is to read through our sister site, www.igan.ca

That will give you a good understanding of IgAN from a patient's perspective

before going to your appointment.

To encourage you though, the majority of people with IgAN never reach end

stage renal disease. I myself have had it since I was a teenager and am now in

my 40's and not yet on dialysis. I really have not had significant problems

until the past few years. God blessed me by allowing me to raise my two

daughters before encountering any real trouble until my youngest was about ready

for

college. The best advise is to not let IgAN dictate your life, but to really

embrace life and receive each day as a blessing!

Welcome again,
