Well I would have to say that I think my conscience would solve that

problem for me. I always wanted to tell Abbey that her dad and I did

EVERYTHING we could to help her. I never wanted her to grow up and

ask me one day, " Mom, why is my head flat and crooked? Why didn't

you get me a band to correct it? " I just wanted to do everything I

could to help as I am sure you do too. Thats why we go to PT even

when it's inconvienent, and we deal with the stares and points, b/c

we know that real story and that we are helping out babies get

rounder noggins! I will never regret this no matter how much I hate

it. I don't know if that was the answer you were after but thats how

I feel about it.

You would have to be prepared for the possibility of them to stay

the same, or perhaps even get worse. I don't know too much about

tort b/c my daughter didn't have it, but the neurosurgeon we saw

about plagio described the dangers of untreated plagio as persistent

flattening/assymetry, TMJ, migraines, and chronic ear infections.

Plus there is the psychological effects to consider once they're in

school and being made fun of b/c of it.

Hi Leigh,

If you click/download my letter to Independent Health there is a

paragraph(s) about utreated plagio (but it's probably exactly just

what the pp told you). I don't have anything in there about

untreated tort. Sorry to read that some others thought you meant for

personal reasons and not for insurance reasons (why you were asking).

Honest mistake, though. :-) GOOD LUCK!

Hi Leigh,

My son was in PT for a full year for his tort and we are still seeing

the effects of his tort on his development. Tort babies who are not

treated appropriately can have all kinds of issues with their

physical development. They will tend to compensate for the tort as

they move from one milestone to the next. For example, they may skip

crawling and go right into furniture cruising and therefore miss all

of the midline skills and shoulder strengthening that is needed.

I cannot urge parents of tort babies enough to get those kiddos into

PT/OT and keep them there until they are released by the therapists.

I know it is a long hard road, and one that seems to never end, but

it is well worth it.

Leigh, have you checked out the Toritcolliskids group? There

are a number of parents there that have kids that were not dx'd at an

early age and are now having surgery or having many other issues as a

young child. They would certainly be able to tell you all of the

issues that can happen if someone does not have treatment.
