Guest guest
Wolfee, Not meaning to be rude, but one way that we, whether EMTs, Paramedics, or even, God forbid, attorneys, make our impression is through our written communication. When your emails are full of incorrect word choices (to instead of too, for example) and misspellings, even the best ideas can look bad. Please, use a spellchecker and/or a dictionary. When we make efforts to be professional, the results will shine through. I'm sorry that your service doesn't treat EMTs with the respect that they deserve. I hope that you will use this as a learning experience and further your professional education to find a fulfilling career. Best wishes, Wes Acting, temporary TexasEMS-L spelling and grammar goon

Guest guest
Wolfee, the secret is to make the Paragods believe that any new ideas are theirs and then they will be properly implemented. The other part is to stop whining so people take you seriously. Constant compliants will make others ignore you no matter what. Third...good ideas are good ideas no matter the source and if the people you work with are too obtuse to realize this then you need to take your happy self to a service which will appreciate you . TOM another EMT-I Problemmmmssss the problem I have with my company is (i am not going to state the systems cause the educational cord. is on this list) I get paid 7.35 an hour the 401k the company doesn't contribute. EMT's don't have annnnny chance of promotion the educational part is geared only around paramedics... they treat the emts only as muscle and not brains.. There is NOOO emt fto dto or any part of managment. Oh and god forbid if we have an idea we get shot down.. but if the paramedic has an Idea the go with the idea with both guns blazing.. I am not shooting paramedics (I want to be a tactical paramedic) place but damnit EMT's are humans to and we have feelings.... Guest guest
Tom, I totally agree with you. And Wolfee, I agree with you, too. It's unfortunate that SOME " paramedics " still have that mentality. Maybe they didn't work their way up the ranks. Then, maybe they did and feel now it's their turn to treat others unprofessionally. -----------THAT SUCKS!!!!!!!!---------------------They need to help those future paramedics be paramedics! I knew what it was like to be treated that way, and I have never treated my PARTNER with disrespect. Although, a few emt's tried to BS us with " yeah, I know what to " , but were quickly shown " the real thing! I've been a paramedic for 18 years, and started out as an ECA for a Volunteer group! Good Luck! ----- Problemmmmssss > > > > the problem I have with my company is (i am not going to state the systems > cause the educational cord. is on this list) I get paid 7.35 an hour the > 401k the company doesn't contribute. Guest guest
I work with good BASIC EMTs on a daily basis. They are awesome. Some of them have been in EMS since Noah's Ark, and some used to be Paramedics but let it lapse for better jobs, some were medics in Nam and did heroic things on an hourly basis that I could only dream about. We all work as a team. There's no tension, conflict, or jealousy between us. We all do what we can do, help each other, and get the job done. There's no place here for egos. Forgeddaboudit. Put your ego to bed. The greatest fun is workin as a member of a dynamite team where everybody does their best and the outcome reflects that. Either you have experienced the rush of having been on a team that did an awesome job and saved somebody's life or you haven't. If you have, you know what I mean. If you haven't, seek it out and look for it. It'll blow yer socks off. Gene
Guest guest
If an experienced paramedic sees that a situation is not life threatening he should for the experience of the emt allow him to render care to his level and supervise this allow the emt to gain experience, if need be the paramedic can always step in and upgrade the level of care if needed an emt is an entry position and supports the paramedic not a slave level I have worked with some emts that I would rather work with than some paramedics who are only there for the pay if you are an EMT I say thank you for a job Weldon in providing care to me the paramedic who could not do his job as well with out you. Guest guest
Bingo! I'd trade my left arm any day for a good basic, and more than one of them has pulled my bacon out of the fire with a quiet look or a swift kick. There are many, many reasons for why different people attain the level of certification they do. I was lucky in that I had both the time and money to commit to becoming a red patch, and along the way, I had to explain to more than one paramedic that just because they started paramedic school before I did, didn't mean they were smarter than I was. If you treat EMTs with disrespect, the chances are just about 100% that eventually you will do something dumb and wonder why everybody is just standing there looking at you like you are an idiot. The EMTs will then gather and laugh at your stupid ass behind your back.....except you will know exactly what they are giggling about. magnetass sends Problemmmmssss > > > > > > > > > > > > the problem I have with my company is (i am not going to state the > systems > > > cause the educational cord. is on this list) I get paid 7.35 an hour > the > > > 401k the company doesn't contribute. Guest guest
If it is any consolation to the EMT's out there, you are not alone in suffering such abuse. I have on many occasions seen the same situations occurring on 2-medic MICU's. There is always the guy who feels that his month of seniority with that particular service, or his 6 month seniority as a red-patch entitles him to push his partner around. It has nothing to do with the patch. It has everything to do with the personality of the jerk. And yep, most managers tend to ignore it and support the senior man regardless of the injustice. Welcome to EMS. Enjoy your stay. Rob

Guest guest
You know, there have been a lot of posts about paramedics treating EMT's bad and such. There have also been a lot of posts lately stating that a good EMT saves a paramedic's you know what at times. Which is absolutely true. I think we are forgetting that unless you wear a patch that says Licensed Paramedic, and I do, the patch you are wearing says EMT-P meaning that paramedics are still EMT's too. Let us not forget where we came from and that we are all a team in this arena of EMS. Like someone said, " There's no place here for egos.
