My son is having surgery next month on his ear. He'll require pain

meds, as well as something to mildly sedate him for around 3-5

days. I need to find out in advance what he can have that will be

safe. If necessary, I can get something compounded, but then

insurance won't cover it.

I'd like to get this taken care of in advance, which means knowing

exactly what we need, asking the doctor for it, and dealing with the

usual attitude/skepticism, etc.

Does anyone have ANY idea where I might start?

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi ,

Elaine has always said to use what you need to when in pain etc. For

me this means acetaminophen (tylenol) but I think that ASD kids use

ibuprofen (motrin advil etc.) for pain & fevers etc. You should be

able to get either of these compounded fairly easily. I don't know

about which drugs to sedate. I hope others have some suggestions.

Sorry, I'm not much help with this.

The doctor gave us a Zyprexa 2.5 mg to help Ian on the plane ride back home,

since he was uncomfortable on the way there. Ian, 5-years old, weighed about 47

pounds. I never gave it to him because it gives me the willies to give him a

drug made by the same company (Eli Lilly) that poisoned him. Fortunately, he

was okay on the plane ride back home without it, anyway. If you don't have a

philosophical problem with it due to trusting Lilly or pHARMa ingredients, in

general, then you could find out about that one.
