Guest guest
Marissa, I don't remember if you posted any info about your yogurt making process. Sorry. But the yogurt should NOT have an orange crusty layer on top and it should not taste like throw up. If you are not on SCD, go to the store and buy some completely plain, unsweetened yogurt and taste it. That's what the homemade yogurt should taste like. It's pretty sour, but does not taste like throw up. Can you refresh my memory on how you made the yogurt? Guest guest
Marissa, I have made one batch of cow's milk yogurt, which I made according to the Yogourmet's instructions using Yogourmet starter (brought the milk to a boil and then cooled to 115 degrees F, added the starter, mixed thoroughly, and incubated in the maker for 24 hours. After that, cooled in refridgerator for 8 hours, and it turned out great.) Last night I made my first batch of Goat's milk yogurt, and prepared as follows: heated two quarts goat's milk to 180-185 degrees F (stirring constantly to avoid scalding), cooled to around 110 (still stirring, with pan in cool water bath to speed cooling), added starter and mixed thoroughly. I then poured into incubating cotainer and have been incubating since around 11pm last night. I will take it out of the incubator and put it in the fridge tonight about the same time, and it should be ready for serving in the morning. I didn't get many " floaties " , probably because I didn't boil the milk. I also read that goat's milk protien is much more fragile, so I heeded the caution about over-heating it. I just checked my current batch, and it looks pretty good (no orange crust). I'll let you know how it comes out. -, father of Simon and , 4yo ASD twins
Guest guest
Hi , It sounds like you did everything right. You may want to drip the goat yogurt according to the instructions on Pecanbread, because it will have a stronger taste than the cow's milk yogurt.
