Guest guest
Talk to your orthotist about any red spots you see. They should be able to shave a little off in those areas. Jennicah has one red spot on the side that takes a long time to fade, but no breakdown of skin has occurred. She doesn't seem to be unhappy or pawing at the helmet or anything like that. She has napped in it all week and tonight we go all night. I do not anticipate any problems. We see the orthotist tomorros and once a week for a month. Be in close contact with the orthotist. and Jennicah in Washington
Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have a 5 month old who just got her DOC band today. She was diagnosed with severe plagio at her 8 week checkup, and its taken this long to get the CT scans done and insurance denials! Fortunately we started aggresive repositioning as soon as we learned what this was and its helped a little. The band will hopefully round everything back out - although I am struggling with knowing if I have it on exactly right! Anyway, she doesn't seem to mind it too much, but she is fair skinned and hot natured. She's already had sweat dripping and red spots that fade a little but never go away. I'm worried about her sleeping all night in the helment (she usually sleeps 10+ hours) when the red spots do not fade much after just a few hours of wear. I've read a few emails on this, but didn't see any recommendations about wearing it all night if the red spots aren't going away. Any suggestions? Can you tell I'm a paranoid, overprotective mom already??? Thanks!
Guest guest
Thank you so much - that helps. She was having trouble getting to sleep tonight, so we decided that trying to make her sleep in it after only wearing it a few hours all day was too much. I'm going to let her go in gradually. It seems to be what other parents are doing too, so I feel a lot better. Fortunately I haven't seen any skin breakdown either, and she hasn't really messed with it all day. I'll do the naps tomorrow, call CT, and go for longer periods Wednesday. Maybe we can try it again Wednesday/Thursday night. Thanks again - and (5 mths), Carolinas > Talk to your orthotist about any red spots you see. They should be able to > shave a little off in those areas. Guest guest
Hi , My son Aidan got his doc band last week. I have the same dilemma about it being on right, it seems that little point is NEVER over his nose! They told me at CT it will still do the job it was made for! I think when they start filling into the flat spot it will stay on much better. Even though the red tape took so long it's great you got your DD banded so early. Hopefully you will see quick correction! My son is fair skinned too, luckily we haven't had any red spots that didn't fade so I can't be of much help there. I'm sure you'll get some wonderful suggestions from everyone and you can always call CT first thing in the morning. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group. If the red marks are lasting longer than an hour you need to keep the band off. Any red mark that doesn't fade within an hours means you need to get in to see your ortho for an adjustment. It is very common to need an adjustment or 2 or 3 in the beginning of treatment before the " just right " fit is found. Your baby is at a great age to receive awesome correction!! What Cranial Tech office are you going to? --- In Plagiocephaly , " brightinaz " <brightinaz@y...> wrote: > Hi everyone, > > I have a 5 month old who just got her DOC band today. Guest guest
Hello Welcome to the group. What a great age your daughter is in to be banded. You will see some good correction. I totally agree with what told you. I would leave the band off at night as well till you can get it adjusted. Please call there, and see that you can get in as soon as possible. Let us know how it goes. Guest guest
Thanks. I did keep it off of her last night, and put it back on this morning. She is napping in it right now (for the first time). We are going to the Cranial Tech office in Charlotte, NC, but we live about 2 hours away (which is not that bad I guess). We have another appointment Monday, but it sounds like we may have to drive back again this week. The red spots do fade a little, but never completely go away. I called them this morning and they want me to do skin checks again today and report back this afternoon (since she didn't sleep in it last night). Yes, I'm glad I've gotten the band on her this early too. I tried to do it even earlier since I've been out of work on leave, but it just didn't work out. I have to go back to work next week, so this is bad timing for the 5 hour roundtrips to NC. Maybe we can get a good fit this week and be okay when I have to go back to work. If not, we will just do what we have to. This is important to her physical and emotional health. Hopefully she won't have to wear it long. She's a tummy sleeper now (her ped told us to sleep her on her tummy during the day after her diagnoses, and once that started she refused to sleep on her back again). So, I'm worried that the helmet will " tweak " her neck again because of the lift and preference to sleep on the smooth side vs the velcro side. To be honest, we had a chiropractor friend help with her slight case of tort. She was much better after just one treatment. It wasn't a typical adult treatment - just a little tap and a massage. It worked wonders for her range of motion. I hope tummy sleeping with the helment doesn't cause other neck problems. Thanks again for all the support and suggestions. This is definitely a big adjustment for moms and dads. My heart goes out to all of you who must drive or fly for hours/days for treatment! Now I need to work on my insurance appeal! > > Hi everyone, > > > > I have a 5 month old who just got her DOC band today.
