Skin breakdown

I know our STARband pamphlet warns parents about skin breakdowns,

but I'm not exactly sure what that is. Here's the thing...Zander's

helmet has sides that come down and hit right about his cheekbones.

Those two spots started out a little red after taking off his

helmet. Last night was his last night of sleeping w/out his band

(he's full time starting tonight). Now, this morning, after 9 hours

out of the band, he woke up with brownish kind of spots where the

red was last night. They don't look like bruises, just brown,

almost like birthmarks. Just now, I took off his band for his 1

hour break and the spots are a little rashy, shiny and one side is

peeling a bit. This can't be right, right? Let me know what you

think. I'm calling the orthodist tomorrow morning, but want your

experience as well. Thank you!

Hi Sherryl,

I would keep the helmet off and call the orthotist. It sounds like his skin is close to breaking down and you don't want that cause he could be out of his band for a week it that happened. The orthotist may have to trim/shave the band back a bit, our helmet is a bit different and does not come down to the cheek but I do recognize skin break down symptoms as a nurse. Keep it off, one more night won't hurt. Good luck!

Sherryl,

I just want to second what you've already been told. Let us know what

your ortho says.

Hey Sherryl

I do agree with . It does indeed sound as if you are getting a

tad bit too close to the skin breakdown, and you don't want that.

LEt us know what the ortho sais.

Sherryl,

I am late in my reply, but I also agree it sounds like an actual

skin breakdown might be imminent! I would keep the band off until

you are able to talk to / see the ortho.

Did you call the ortho this morning? Will Zander be going in for an

adjustment?

Please let us know how Zander is doing with his problem area,

Hi C and welcome,

Definietly the right choice to go to bed without. It could be a

combination of heat and eczema which may clear up quickly, but like

you said best to leave it off and get it checked in the morning. I

hope it clears up fast. How old is your daughter? Which CT? We

went/go to the Charlotte office (150 miles one way - yikes).
