Guest guest
Hi H, I may have missed a previous post from you - I wanted to welcome you to the group! I think that Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is currently conducting a large scale study on the various treatments and outcomes, and is scanning the babies periodically to mark their progress... I am very eager to see the results, myself, being the repositioning moderator (we have so few studies out comparing treatments and ages, etc.) Is the study you are participating in at this location? I'd love to know who else is out there conducting a study such as this one so that we could keep in touch with any group members participating and get the word when the studies come out! My only feedback on your situation is that usually repo is much more difficult if you are also dealing with tort. Is your daughter still sleeping on her flat area at nighttime? During the day, besides tummy time, are you continuing to use devices such as a bouncie or swing? The upside is that in babies as young as your daughter, repo results are usually swift and dramatic if repo is going to work. I would also like to ask what sort of flatness your daughter has - is it plagio (flatness on one side of the back of the head) or brachy (flatness all across the back of the head) by any chance? If your baby has brachy, and you are batting tort tilt as well, etc., then you may want to consider banding sooner to avoid any unintentional widening of the head during nighttime or daytime repo. Otherwise, I think banding by 5 months sounds fine if that's the repo deadline you are comfortable setting. If you'd like to give repo a try, as they are suggesting, we have lots of repo tips in the links/repo and tummy time section, and I also recently created a few repo documents in the files/repo headquarters folder. I sincerely wish we had some official way of tracking my own daughter Remy's progress during our repo efforts. We used repo only and relied on homemade evaluation techniques to help us decide to keep going. What a wonderful opportunity to have periodic official measurements taken at a medical facility! Would you let me know what you decide to do, and let me know if I can be of any help with repo if you pursue that option? Guest guest
Hello H Welcome to the group. My daughter Willow also had torticollis which made repo a lost battle. Not always though, just in our case. My daughter was put in Dr. Blecher's helmet at 6months and she wore it for 10wks. She was in PT for 7months total, plus we had Early intervention come by as well. Atfirst she had 3sessions a wk and slowing down from there. We put her on her tummy as much as I could through out the day, and did streches everytime I gave her a bottle as it was easier than. Good luck, and let us know how the repo goes. Guest guest
H, I am assuming that you would be putting you daughter through CT for her helmet since you son went through them? I think your plan is great. You can benefit from the study and hopefully have enough rounding to avoid the helmet and if you do choose to go with the helmet, 5 months is a wonderful age to start! Please keep us posted while this study is being performed (and after ofcourse:-), the knowledge you gain will be of great benefit to our members!! , mom to Makenna LLUMC helmet grad '03 --- In Plagiocephaly , " tbustermom " <tbustermom@y...> wrote: > Curious whether the " experts " here will agree with the approach we're > taking to my 12 week old daughter's tort and plagio.
