Second Band - How much additional correction?

Hi all, My little boy has had his DOC band for about 9 weeks. The

therapist mentioned that we may want to consider a second band in

about 8 weeks in order to achieve additional correction. Has anyone

had a second band and if so, was it worth it? My son is 10 months

now. We saw the greatest amount of correction during the first six

weeks but since that time it has been very little. It is expected he

will have additional correction in the next eight weeks but only a

minimal amount. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly

appreciated. I was so disappointed to hear that we may want to

consider another helmet as I was hoping that we would be done by his

first birthday. Thanks all! Tracie

HI Tracie,

My daughter is actually getting her third band soon, so I'd

obviously say that a second band is worth getting! If there is

still enought flatness that you're unhappy with his headhsape still,

I'd definitely go for it. Pressure points on the bands lose their

effectiveness after so long, so a new band and fresh pressure points

should give him more correction. Good luck with your decision.

Hi Tracie,

My son wore a 2nd Doc at the late age of 16-19 months. It did

wonders for his ear alignment. Correction is usually slower from 12

months on but you just never know when they will have a growth

spurt! Good luck, Natasha

Hey Tracie---My son got his second band when he was about 11.5 mos old. Not sure how much correction he really got. He was still quite flat, so it was really a no brainer for us to get the band. Plus, insurance was helping out. Anyway---I think when you do two bands, there is this thought that you are going to end up with one beautiful cue ball head. In our case, had less asymmetry, but was still flat. We had the wideness factor to deal with though---2 standard deviations from normal and that made it difficult for his head to really round out---too much surface area. So...I'm not sure if the second band did a whole lot. But in our minds---and I stress "ours"---we saw 's condition and knew we had to try everything. We had come such a long road that turning down an opportunity for more correction didn't seem like such a good idea. did have his one and only REAL growth spurt in the band. It was right around his first birthday. That probably helped, but I could never be sure. We never did exit pics either due to moving and not wanting to travel down the last time. So...listen to your gut. If he looks good to you, that is all that is important.
