Hi Crista,

Jaxson was in his helmet 4 months and 5 days, another was not

offered. I am not happy with his head shape now though. We go through

a place that believes there will be more rounding after graduation.

I don't know if I believe in that...

Hi Crista:

I'm sure you'll get many differing replies to this as it depends on

child's age, growth spurts & severity. But my Abby wore 1 DOCband

for 4.5 mos, she did not outgrow the band (wore from 11.5 mos-15.5

mos of age), but Cranial Tech keeps babies in their bands for a max

of 4.5 mos, after that they feel the band's pressure points have

become exhausted, therefore, no longer as effective as it should be.

A 2nd band was not really offered for us, although I'm sure they

would've 2nd banded her had we requested but we were happy with her

outcome & couldn't handle the travel much longer!! (4 hrs one way

drive).

Hi Crista,

Our daughter Meredith is 15 months old. She has been in her DOC Band

since she was 11 1/2 months old. So that makes 15 weeks and almost 2

days now she's had it. On Thursday we saw a terrific cranial facial

doctor CT recommended, who agreed a second band would benefit

Meredith. We are very pleased with the improvements the first band has

made and would like to glean more with another.

This doctor (who is VERY familiar with the DOC Band) said that with

" older " babies who need more than one band, it is better to not have

them in the first one for the max. 4.5 month time - but rather get

them into another before then, before they start to fill out the first

- like at 3 or 3 1/2 months even. It has to do with keeping those

holding points really holding. I suppose with older babies, when the

clock is ticking towards the 2 year mark, it may be better to be in

two bands for 3 months each, than to be in one for the entire 4.5

months, with possibly losing some of its gentle pressure before then

and on top of that their growth rate is slowing down. Other people may

disagree, but I think it makes sense. I don't know at what age is

considered " older " , so that may not apply to , since he is only

8 months old. The doctor may mean babies over a year old.

We will do casting for her second band as soon as we hear yea or nay

from our insurance company. They denied the first one and will

probably deny this one, but we're going to do it anyway either way and

appeal them both.

Meredith's measurements from beginning, middle and Thurs. appt. were:

Cranial vault: from 15 to 10 and now 7

Ear to eye: from 12 to 7 and now 5

Ear to nose: from 7 to 4 and now 3

Keep us posted on 's progress!

My daughter grew out of her first DOC-band after 8 weeks. She was

banded just shy of her 5th month bday. I am told that the life of

this second band is approx 3 months or 12 weeks. Doubtful she will

need to be in it that long.

Hi Crista,

Well, helmet #1 was worn for 10 weeks, #2 fit for 14 weeks, and I'm

sure she probably won't grow out of #3, but instead wear it for it's

max life of 16 weeks that Cranial Tech does. We were recommended a

second one after the first (you do need another script and have to

do the ins precert stuff all over again), but after #2 they didn't

think she'd get enough correction to make another worth it. I had

her reeavaluated at the moderator conference four months later b/c I

feared regression and they thought a third band would be beneficial

for her. She has seen more correction and we're very happy w/our

decision.
