,

I concur with Mike Z, you will have to start consuming more carbs and maybe

sugar. I was the same way, before tx, I had to mow and edge the lawn over

the entire weekend making sure I didn't fly out of town on Mon & Tues.

since I was wiped out for 2 days afterwards. My yard is about an 2/5 of

an acre. Not much at all but it would wip me out. I also had trouble with

the shakes and lightheadedness. I would eat smaller more frequent meals or

snacks. Fruit, energy bars, etc to maintain my energy.

Biking, even stationary, should help. Running would probably not be a good

idea since it is the most abusive recreational sport people partake in.

Given the potential for bone loss over time and the fact your shoulder

kills you after swimming, I imagine your knees would be begging for mercy

after a couple mile run.

I'm not sure if it was you who mentioned extra protein intake but here's my

thoughts. You should avoid excess protein input because any unused

protein is broken down and secreted by the kidneys. As you may be aware,

as your liver begins to become less and less efficient (mind you, years

down the road) your kidneys will have to do more and more work. Several

have had kidney problems at liver tx time (Rich, Ron and Aubrey(?)).

Granted it was probably not due to additional protein intake, especially

with Aubrey, but putting extra strain on an organ that will be required to

perform outside its normal parameters may not be a good idea. In addition,

since the immunosuppressant drugs like Prograf and .... drawing a blank

here, are notoriously hard on the kidneys post tx, the kidneys should be

as healthy as possible. A

Darin
