Guest guest
Penny, You could make the cashew butter muffins using either cashew butter or peanut butter. The recipe does not call for honey. I would go ahead and give the pineapple juice a try and see how it goes. Will he eat meatloaf at all? Guest guest
I have made " pear pops " before. Cut the pears into quarters and cook them, stick a popsicle stick in the end and freeze. ate them up and he is almost as fussy as Kenzie, from what I can see. He is also eating pear sauce now, I took some crushed ice (one of his favorite snacks) and gave him a piece at a time on a spoon with a little pear sauce. The next day he was eating pear sauce at school just fine. Thats another thing, I sometimes find that will try something for his teachers at school when he will not try it for me. He saves his worst behavior for his mom, I think, but then again what kid dosen't? Another thing that is loving right now is bananna and egg pancakes, just two eggs and a bananna blended. I add a little squash and his powdered minerals, so they are sneaky and convenient. I let him see me put a DROP of honey on them and they disappear very fast, usually I make three at a time and he is bringing his plate pack before I have flipped the next batch. He is also liking the chicken cupcake recipe, made into cookies instead of cupcakes. I keep them in the fridge and use them when I don't have time to make pancakes, they don't disappear quite as fast though. Definately cut the white grape, it helped a lot for me. Save the Welches bottles and divide one can of Dole into two LARGE white grape bottles, and fill er up with water. It's about a 3:1 ratio and seems calmer. You and I are practically in the same boat - has been SCD since July but I added everything WAY too soon and he went back downhill. I went back to the intro about the same time you did, so I feel a special bond! I am not comfy with nut anything yet, too. Good luck! a couple of questions > Kenzie wants welch's white grape juice all the time. I've taken the suggestion and even watered it down more. I'm wondering if he has a prolem with it even at that ratio. He seems really hyper. Would Dole pineapple juice be better or worse? > > As I said in my email the other day he still won't eat any cooked fruit or veggies. I'm not comfortable with adding nut flour or honey back again. Yesterday he found a pear. He's never eaten a pear before even though I've tried. He ate 1 1/2 pear and sure enough we had trouble yesterday. He had lose stools. I really don't know what to give this kid. He won't eat any of the " hidden versions " of veggies in things. The only idea I have is maybe meat sauce again with burger, tomato juice, tomatoes, etc. But....he really likes it sweet. When I've added Sweet n Low liquid in the past it just doesn't taste right. We always use to add sugar to our spaghetti sauce. I know...bad. Any suggestions on how to make it sweet? > > I'm wondering about making him some peanut butter brownies. Sam loves it with seltzer water; we call pineapple soda. Maybe he'd be more likely to try it if you call it soda. It may be a phenol/salicylate issue. Sam reacted to squash of all things; made him hyper and really talkative > But....he really likes it sweet. When I've added Sweet n Low liquid in the past it just doesn't taste right. We always use to add sugar to our spaghetti sauce. I know...bad. Any suggestions on how to make it sweet? Try adding some pureed cooked carrot or pear to the sauce. It will sweeten and disappear. I steamed some peeled, quartered and deseeded pears soft, then stuck a wooden pop stick in them and froze them like a popscicle. I thought they were good, Sam wasn't too keen on them, but I will try again. I know Kenzie likes to crunch and these have a hard but not too hard to bite texture. Have you tried the cashew butter muffins? I've used PB for these and they have no honey. Sam eats two every morning for breakfast. They're good toasted and buttered too. Guest guest
I use liquid saccharin, just to taste, can't say exactly how much but it sweetens pretty well. Guest guest
Have they ever tested your vitamin B12 level? I had 2+ years of daily nausea and frequent vomiting - caused by a B12 deficiency. It's when the doc when looking for the cause of the B12 def. that he came up with celiac. Within 2 to 4 weeks after starting high dose B12 therapy, the nausea went away. Guest guest
Laurie I had numerous other digestive problems prior to being diagnosed. Since being on the gluten free diet, most have gone away. I had a terrible problem with slow digestion and took medications to speed it up. They diagnosed it as hypomotility and slow gastric emptying. I participated in a drug study at UVA for 10 years for a motility drug which they label as a hyperkinetic type of drug to speed up the digestive track. It was on the market for a few years as propulsid and they took it off about 4 years ago as it had complications when taken with other drugs. I still take another one which the doctor orders from Canada as it is not available from the US (not approved here) called domperidone. I was sent all over for other opinions, s Hopkins, UVA, town and the Cleveland Clinic and they all said I would have to have my colon removed. I decided not to let them do that and kept trying to find ways to deal with my digestive problems. I sufferred from severe constipation due to this hypomotility and got full too fast and couldn't eat much. Finally about 5 years ago, I had been anemic for 2 years and after taking prescriptioned iron pills for 2 years and not getting better, I asked my GI if he could find out "why" I was anemic and he finally checked me for celiac. I had never heard of celiac or I would have been asking to be checked years earlier. I still have a slow digestive system, but now do not have the pain and bloating and gastritis that I used to have. I used to have to take librax and bentyl and darvocet for the pain in my abdomen. I also had to lie with a heating pad on my stomach to help relieve the pain. All of this stopped when I got on the gluten free diet. I only get the pain, bloating and constipation or diarrhea when I accidentally eat gluten. Mostly now I get diarrhea when I eat something with gluten. I am extremely careful with my diet, but do occasionally accidentally eat something and get sick. I felt better within 2 weeks after being on the gluten free diet. My blood count went back to normal in less than a year without the iron pills as they made me sick, too. ita
Guest guest
I forgot to mention, I also have pernicious anemia and have to take B12 injections once a month. I started taking B12 shots many years before being diagnosed with celiac. ita

Hi ita- I was actually taking domperidone for a while too. They also tried me on reglan, erythromycin, zelnorm, urecholine...a bunch of things. I went to 3 different local GI doctors for this and then went to Temple medical center in philly because they have a special motility clinic. Unfortunately they didn't have anything else to offer me treatment-wise. Like you, I still have the slowed digestion despite the GF diet. I had my second gastric emptying test last december which slowed that I had 85% of the food left in my stomach after 2 hours (the norm is less than 40%). When I had this test done I had been GF for about 2 months. So the gastroparesis is still there, but the other symptoms, which I believe to be secondary to CD, are gone. Thanks for sharing your info. It helps to know that someone else understands -Laurie in CT
