Guest guest
Vicki, I took Neurontin for muscle and nerve pain for 11 months. Stopped taking it at 1200 mg. dose. The reason for discontinuing it was because I experienced uncontrollable myclonic jerks and some very disturbing psychological side effects. I found the Neurontin very helpful for fibro pain for the first 7 months of use; however, a dose which was helpful soon needed to be nitrated. When I took 1000 mg. my muscle spasms/jerks became very severe. As you probably are aware off, Neurontin is an anti-seizure drug used to control epileptic seizures; however, the medical society have found that it can in many instances be very effective in controlling nerve and muscle pain. Won't pooh-pooh this drug, but it is my feeling that it is dealt to patients all to often like a 'wild card', when a caring physician wants to address an intractable pain issue. I don't feel that doctors are fully aware of the neurological side effects that this particular drug effects on the nervous system when prescribed for intractable pain.
