First did everyone have to do evaluations and other programs before

they were approved by insurance for their surgery? Who had open and

who had lap and which seems to be the better option? Anyone on this

list from Minneapolis and if so who did your surgery? How long a

recovery did everyone have. I can get a month off work at the most for

this.

Pam,

My PCP cinched it with my insurance company but I'm pretty sure there

was a requirement to have had 6 months in a weight loss program

and/or to have at least tried to lose weight before. I had lap which

I thought was fortunate because it doesn't have the scar(s) of open.

I'm not sure if there are other bonuses but I think recovery time is

less too. I'm not in Minni but I do love that city. It's almost as

cold here in Grand Rapids. My recovery was about 1-2 weeks. I was so

bored by the end of two weeks I went back to work. My doctor had

written a short term disability claim for 2-4 weeks so I could have

stayed off longer but I was going stir crazy.

****First did everyone have to do evaluations and other programs

Many people have to do this. I did a Dr supervised diet the summer

before my RNY and the insurance company accepted it. I also had to do

a physc evaluation

I had lap, I was about 135 lbs overweight. You recover quicker with

lap.

******I can get a month off work at the most for this.******

If you go lap you should be fine with a month off. You will probably

be a little tired and sluggish. Burt at 4 weeks you will be toward

the end of that period.

WELCOME to the group Pam!!!!

Hugs!!

I had to show documitation that I had tried other diets and medications and

how they failed. THat happened with the surgeons consult. I then went

through a yeah of seeing the psych Doctor and his consult. I proceeded to

see the dietician every two weeks (continue to do so) and go to a monthly

support group. One yr later on the 24 of January I had my surgery.

I had open surgery about 27 staples and a drainage tube. I was able to

return to my job at 3 weeks out after everything was removed with my doctors

permission (Im behind a desk) but it was short peroids of time. I tired

real easy
