Guest guest
I'm not planning on eating HVR because there are other options, but when you read this statement it really sounds like another variation of the CYA. " We don't put gluten in it but a supplier could have messed up and so we're not making any guarantees. " Heck, that's true with ANY processed product we eat. richard --- onesillyyak wrote: > > This is taken from the Hidden Valley Ranch Website: > > Q. Guest guest
I called them months ago and was told that their product does have trace amounts of gluten in it. It didn't sound like a supplier situation to me when I spoke with the woman, but an ingredient choice. The woman did say that so many people were calling these days that it's not totally unlikely they change this sometime (yeah, yeah.) Anyway, because HVR is one of the " best " out there, I'm very reluctant to order ranch dressing at any restaurant. Just in case. > > > Does anyone know if Hidden Valley Ranch original > > flavor dressing > > is gluten > > > free? > > > Sherri V. > > > > > > > > > > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
You're right. We usually buy KRAFT Ranch or KEN'S Ranch Dressing. Our little SillyYak loves Ranch Dip on everything..... (she dips her grilled cheese sandwiches in ranch dip, dips her pizza in it sometimes, dips breakfast sausage in it, and sometimes dips her GF waffles in it, etc.) Most kids liket to " dip " foods in things like ketchup... not our daughter... She's a ranch dip NUT. I buy 4-5 bottles of KRAFT Ranch Dressing at a time. > > > Does anyone know if Hidden Valley Ranch original > > flavor dressing > > is gluten > > > free? > > > Sherri V. > > > > > > > > > > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
Actually, it says " we don't add 'gluten' as an ingredient " - that is true, it is not a listed ingredient. Then it says, " may contain low levels of gluten depending on the source ingredients " which simply isn't the same as " cross contamination may occur " . When the company words it this way, it generally means they don't care what the supplier of starch sends them, so sometimes it is corn, sometimes wheat, sometimes something else or a blend. Whichever is cheapest at the time. The same on their flavorings - they make no effort to find out if they contain gluten or not as ingredients, they just buy whatever flavor is cheapest that week, so some batches contain gluten, others do not. Since there are so many suppliers that will say none of their sources have wheat as a base, there is really no need to buy products from companies like this one. Or, wait until 2006, when at least all the wheat will ahve to be labeled (maybe, there is still come question as to whether starch or oil from wheat or any other allergen will have to be labeled). > -----Original Message----- > > > I'm not planning on eating HVR because there are other > options, but when you read this statement it really > sounds like another variation of the CYA. Guest guest
I called HVR back in October when my husband brought HVR home instead of the Kraft that I had requested. The customer service rep told me that they would not guarantee that any of their items were gf, so I politely informed her that we would no longer be buying any of their products. So forget about HVR and enjoy the other abundant options Rick Lovegro wrote: I'm not planning on eating HVR because there are otheroptions, but when you read this statement it reallysounds like another variation of the CYA.
