Re: How long does it take before the Starband helmet is adjusted appropriately?

My son had trouble with the fit of the first Starband he had. He

was 4 days short of 5 months old at the time of his first scan

(although he was born at 35 weeks, so his adjusted age would be 4

months). His started to wear his Starband 2 weeks later. I had it

adjusted 6 times in 2 weeks for red spots and rotation problems.

They tried adding wedges and trimming areas but it was like chasing

your tail - every correction caused a new problem. More importantly,

he was miserable - wouldn't play, stopped rolling, very fussy.

Finally, they scanned him for a new helmet. The second helmet was a

totally different story. He adjusted to it immediately, I had it

adjusted only once in the first 2 weeks and I probably could/should

have let it go. No one was sure what was wrong with the first

Starband though one orthotist suggested maybe he had a big growth

spurt between the scan and receiving the Starband that caused it to

be a poor fit. His second helmet is noticably larger.

I know how frustrating it can be. Keep after them until they get it

right.

Hi & welcome to our group:

I'm sooo sorry to hear of your fit concerns! Often in the first week

or so, some fine tuning is needd to obtain that perfect fit. As

others have replied, any red spot taht is not completely faded w/i 1

hr of the band's removal, needs to be seen & likely adjusted by the

orthotist. It sounds like she's already been thru a few adjustments

that aren't working yet. Does the band appear too tight on her

head? How long did you go between casting & receiving the actual

band? It shouldn't be longer than 14 days at most, esp for a 6 mos

rapidly growing baby.

Do you have any pics you could add to our PHOTOS section for us to

take a look at?

I hope someone can help you with your W & F question, hopefully we have

a lurker in the group who can chime in. Which location are you going

to??

Please call your ortho Monday am and get in asap for another

adjustment. I hope things get better soon!! Keep us posted.

How many adjustments have you had? For us, it took two I think the

first week and then everything was fine. I'm sorry you are having

such a rough time.

Hello and welcome to the group.

How many adjustments have been done already? Please don't put the

helmet back on her if the redspots take 3.5hrs to fade. Clearly

this helmet needs to be adjusted some more.

Please let us know how it goes
