Guest guest
Hello, A lady who I correspond with on the olderplag board has been referred to an Osteopathic Manipulative Specialist by her ped for her son's plagio, he is 2.5 years old. I hope that this can help but I am doubtful. I wonder if these specialists have ever been asked to treat plagio before. Any opinions? I wonder what the neurosurgeons at CraniaTech or elsewhere would think. It would be great if it is an alternative option esp. for those of us with children too old for the helmet but I just don't see how... Guest guest
I'm assuming this is a DO (Doctor of Osteopathic medicine). My GP was a DO. They can do everything an MD can do, but also learn manipulations (like chiropractors). It seems to be the older ones are the only ones left who still practice doing manipulations. (Which I am terribly unhappy about because my GP just retired and now I have to find a new doc). Anyway....I would think that a DO could help with tort and stuff like that, but I wouldn't think they could help with actually rounding out the head. Unless of course, they prescribed a helmet?!? I'm curious to see the other responses. and (DOCgrad 13-Feb-04/10-14mos./PA)scythians2003 <scythians2003@...> wrote: Hello,A lady who I correspond with on the olderplag board has been referred to an Osteopathic Manipulative Specialist by her ped for her son's plagio, he is 2.5 years old.I hope that this can help but I am doubtful. Guest guest
Hi, I agree - seems like this type of doctor could help with tort etc. but that's all. Her child does not have tort, just plagio. Also, it would not be for getting a helmet as he is already 2.5 yrs. I guess her ped thinks the specialist can manipulate the bones/plates in the head in order to round out the child's head. I just don't see how this can be but I would love to be wrong. Perhaps it is similar to cranial something therapy (??) that I have heard mentioned on this board before. Guest guest
Hi--The first thing that my doctor suggested for my daughter's facial asymmetry was cranial sacral therapy which, as I understand it, is a form of this osteopathic manipulation. This was prior to her officially diagnosing with plagio and accompanying tort. She said that approximately half of her patients find it to be successful. We are going for our first appt on Tuesday. I'll get more info then and share it with you. is only 4 months old but I'll try to remember to ask him about older children. Fortunately, we live very close to an osteopathic medical school and perhaps that may be why it is somewhat popular up here. They have a university health care practice as part of their clinical education and community outreach efforts. Barb and (4 mos) currently repo.
