Hi Allsion,

I too had that same fear. I was afraid of living as a morbidly obese

woman yet I was afraid I would die from the surgery. In the end I am

blessed with a healthy and active life. Unfortunately, we lose some

WLS brothers and sisters. It's not fair but we have to look on the

bright side for the lives it has saved.

Hi.......Welcome M!

It's OK to be scared this is a major surgery, it can also be a life change for

the better.

Have you talked to your primary doctor yet about having the surgery? If so, have

they referred you to a WL surgeon? (Preferably one that can do a lap.) This is

where I would start....Also surf the web. There is lots of info on all

WLS....You might try www.obesityhelp.com Great source of info on that site. I

wish you the best & please keep us informed on how you are progressing on your

WL journey.

I agree with . This is a fear of all of us. None of us were living

before, that was part of what made us decided to even enterain the thought of

surgery. I know that for me, I prayed for the answer for me. And one day I knew

without any doubt that this was for me. Only you will know what is best for

you. Just because it was for me and I have had no problems and I'm alive to

talk about it, doesn't mean that it is for you. Only you can decide. But your

fears are normal and not taking this lightly, will drive you to ask questions

and seek the information that you need in order to help you make that decision

for yourself.

Hi Mar, first i am 25 years old, 24 at the time, I had open surgery and i had

about 26 staples, My highest weight was 356lbs. I can pretty much eat what ever

i want which is a problem for me because i don't have the best willpower. and i

sometime make really bad decisions. my current weight is 228, that was after i

gained 7lbs in a week. so i am trying to be strong and stick to the rules. My

insurance did cover it , I had blue cross, blue shield and a second insurance

called DRS. Hope i answered all your questions, if you have any more just drop

me a line.

Hi Marguerite!

I'm sorry a WL surgeon is just short for a Weight Loss surgeon. If you are not

satisfied with your visit to the psychiatrist I would go to another

one....Hopefully what the psych said about an eating disorder won't hinder your

chances. Can I ask you, Do you think you have an eating disorder? Being obese is

a medical disorder.....It's funny to think about it now but, I really think we

all had some form of a warped eating disorder when we first started our journey.

Having this surgery helps to you change bad habits.....make good healthy

choices!! It could help with a eating disorder. My visit to the shrink was

basically to find out if I realized what this surgery was all about & to see if

I could handle it. I would also find out from my primary doctor what they have

to say about the psych report, if they think it would hinder your chances in

getting the surgery. If it will then what do you have to do to correct the

problem. Maybe see another shrink.........

Take care, Margurite!
