Guest guest
Sodium barcibonate is give primarily to correct a condition called metabolic acidosis, that is, the whole body is too acidic. This can be associated with chronic renal failure, but IgAN itself doesn't usually cause that. Pierre sodium bicarb????? > hey,,,,,does anyone here take sodium bicarb for their IGAN?,,,,,if so > can someone tell me what it is for,,,,thanks,,,,,crystal > >
Guest guest
I forgot to mention, sodium bicard also sometimes used for emergency treatment of high potassium, and it is sometimes used in some cases of chronic kidney stones (only for a specific type though). Guest guest
My nurse practitioner put me on sodium bocarb because she said that my blood was to acidic. I have to be sure that I drink plenty of water afterward because it can come back on you if you don't make absolutely sure that it has made it all the way to the stomach. Re: sodium bicarb????? Guest guest
I don't know crystal. It depends on why she needs it. I haven't heard of too many IgAN patients who have to take sodium bicarb. Guest guest
I remember that my son took bicarb tablets for about 2 years before his transplant. As I recall it was related to the carbon dioxide level in his blood, and it was to correct acidosis. Betsy > I don't know crystal. > > It depends on why she needs it. Guest guest
Most people with IgAN don't get severe enough metabolic acidosis until they pretty much need dialysis anyway. Of course, there are always exceptions. Pierre
Guest guest
By the way, I get bicarbonate every dialysis treatment. That's what corrects the acid balance. Everyone does, and there are different concentrations, depending on the need. Guest guest
More... The first month I started dialysis, they started me at the same bicarb concentration that most people get: 36. I was getting some wierd tingling effects after dialysis and into the next day, and one neph finally figured out that my blood wasn't acidic enough for the standard concentration. In other words, they were pushing me too much the other way. I've been on 32 ever since, without any problems. Pierre Re: sodium bicarb????? > By the way, I get bicarbonate every dialysis treatment.
