Guest guest
Check out http://www.lymphnet.org for info on what to do to help prevent lymphedema. Lots of doctors don't have any idea how to deal with it and some refuse to believe it even exsists. Wonder why no tramp flap mentioned? Are you skinny or have you had abdomenal sugeries? It's odd that the insurance doesn't cover reconstruction. I know you are not in the States but most places that have socialized medicine cover such things. Check it out fully. hugs Pam
Guest guest
, Thats a decision only you can make. Personally I wish I would have had both taken at the same time. You are in my prayers. Hi There ,I went for my appointment with the surgeon today. He thinks that I should think about having my other breast off . He also thinks I should have my ovaries taken. Do I or don't I? I have 6 months to think about it as my next appointment is in April. He said that they don't usually do anything for a year after surgery anyway. On a positive note he said I'm doing very well.I asked him about lymphodemia and my arm and he said that I should be doing now what I was doing before the mascetomy, I said even carrying heavy cartons of chooks and he said that I'm young and should work up to what I was doing before. I don't know how I'm going to make a decision on whether to get my left one removed....wish that someone could make that decision for me. He said that it costs $1500 an implant, they aren't covered on medicare. He didn't give me any other options like the trams flap etc...only mentioned the implants. Guest guest
Hi , I had breast cancer in only one breast (so I thought) but decided to do a double mastectomy. I made this decision based on the type of cancer I had and the probability that it would show up in the right breast also. I also knew that I would be constantly checking myself and would drive myself nuts. Get this visual - I'm standing in the grocery store check out line and touching my breast to find a lump as horrified people are looking at me like I am some kind of weirdo - this was what I thought I'd be doing if I didn't do bilateral mastectomies. Hope you could laugh at that. As it turned out, I had invasive cancer in the left breast and had cancer confined to the ducts in the right breast, so my decision was a good one. I know how hard this decision is - I wish you peace in whatever you choose. Lori > > Hi There , > I went for my appointment with the surgeon today. Guest guest
nne, I should have asked more questions especially about the ovaries. I made an appointment for tomorrow morning (sat) with my GP. The thing is ,I had a biopsy done on my left breast before my right mascetomy as I have a lump there as well. When it came back benign he said that it wasn't necessary for me to take them both. Now 6 months down the line he pulls this on me. Crikeys..... > , > Thats a decision only you can make. Guest guest
Cheryl, Thankyou for letting me know how you feel. I will only let him take it off if he lets me have the implants straight away. After I talk to my GP I hope that I will understand more. > michelle > you have to make thta decision but if i could do over again i would of had both taking off for one thing of the worry it coming in other breast and i am a big brreast person very big and this prothesis hurts my neck and back its so heavy and i wish i could of had both taking off i still want the other one off i have fibroid cystic of othe rone but they wont take it off > cheryl > A Lot to think about. > > > > Hi There , > I went for my appointment with the surgeon today. Guest guest
No I didn't have to have radiation. I had a mascetomy in May but now he tells me he would like to take the other boob.I've already had my chemo etc. Ren, I will post some photos soon of the Formal for you to see. Not now as I'm a bit down. Stupid husbands who don't understand. Thinks that I want implants for my ego.Maybe I do.... > > michelle > > you have to make thta decision but if i could do over again i would > of had both taking off for one thing of the worry it coming in other > breast and i am a big brreast person very big and this prothesis > hurts my neck and back its so heavy and i wish i could of had both > taking off i still want the other one off i have fibroid cystic of > othe rone but they wont take it off > > cheryl > > A Lot to think about. > > > > > > > > Hi There , > > I went for my appointment with the surgeon today.
