Gardening Stretches

Gardening is a great way to get exercise and fresh air – and reduce

stress. As with any physical activity, it's important to stretch

before, during and after a gardening session. Warm up by walking a

couple laps of the yard before doing a few slow repetitions of these

stretches. Repeat midway through your work and again when finished.

Neck stretch: Slowly bend neck sideways, ear to shoulder, then up.

Repeat on other side. Then bend neck forward, chin to chest, and

return.

Shoulder stretch: Grasp elbow with opposite hand. Pull elbow and arm

across your chest.

Lower back and leg stretches: Place hands firmly against back of

hips and bend backwards until you feel a stretch. Return to upright.

Clasp hands over your head, lean to one side as far as you can.

Return to upright and repeat on other side.
