Guest guest
Hi , Great to hear of another family in OHIO. We are in Columbus all the time. We go to Children's for Makenna's specialist. I love your daughter's name : ) I would love to meet you and your family some time. I work in the schools so I have the entire summer off. Unfortunately this year we don't get a spring break. But if the summer is too far off we could meet on a weekend. My sister lives in Troy, Ohio. Ever heard of it, it is over your way north of Dayton. If you want to set something up or talk on the phone you can email my private email at kjsusil@... Gotta run making pies for Easter. Kauffman wrote: Welcome, and Makenna! Glad you joined the group, and hope you are able to convince the new mom in your area to do the same. You will find invaluable information and support here. We live in Mason, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati, so we're only a couple hours from you. I think you're the closest family to us that we've met on the list so far! We have a three-year-old daughter named . She has bilateral colobomas, a minor heart defect, bilateral profound hearing loss, missing semicircular canals, gross motor delays, and was also born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. We were lucky in that she didn't have the breathing or feeding issues that so many CHARGErs have. Still, we've been through six surgeries so far, with more to come, so we can relate to the many hospitalizations. Let me know if you're ever going to be in the Columbus area and would have some time to meet. That's only about 90 minutes from us, so it would be a good halfway point. We'd love the opportunity to connect with other families face-to-face! , mom to (3) --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Small Business - Try our new resources site! Guest guest
, Hey now where have you been hiding? We moved from CT to MA just last year. There are families in CT who have children with CHARGE that you can get in touch with. One of them, Ellen, is active on this list. Her son is . They have a deaf/blind group and the families involved in it are wonderful people. Does Kelsey have any of the vision and/or hearing issues involved with CHARGE? I would really recommend you getting in touch with them especially because Kelsey is coming close to her transition time. CT IS HORRIBLE which is the major reason we moved. Meaning horrible I am including college and other opportunities, or I should say lack of opportunities, for people with any needs at all. Hopefully you will have better luck. But the old governor goes to prison this coming Friday. Bonnie, mom to a 22, Patty CHARGE 20, and wife to

Guest guest
Angie, Hello and welcome. I have yet to have my surgery, but I do know from research that each surgeon's diet plan varies. However the surgeon I am going to graduates you to the foods you are seeminly already eating. You are less than a month out and already eating ground beef...my surgeon recommends not eating red meats such as ground beef aand steak till you are 6 months out, because you do not have enough acid to break down the grains of this type of meat. Also my suregon suggests that I stay on a SOft High Protein Diet for the first month which includesScambled eggs (great for hair loss...has biotin), cheese,Cottage cheese, low fat or non fat yogart, non fat or skimmed milk, protein shakes, sugar free broth, sugar free jello,100%juices no cocktails, sugar free popscicles, decaffiented non carbinated drinks, and plenty of water. As far as your hair loss you can not stop it if it is going to happen. You can somewhat miniumize it from what I hear by taking biotin supplements and or washing your hair with minoxidil.I hope this was helpful. I am sure the other women on this site can be of more help, but that is what my surgeon has recommended for me and this is his protocol. Have a nice Tuesday. ~Robin > > Just wanted to say hi, and introduce myself. > > My name is Angie, Im married with two kids and two stepkids, I live > in Iowa and I had my bypass surgery on Dec 29th. Guest guest
Hi Angie, I've heard that biotin can help with hair loss. I take 1000mg a day, but i had my surgery a year ago so i don't know if it helps prevent it. I take it now and i think it helps. You should try it , it couldn't hurt. iowa_girl32 wrote: Just wanted to say hi, and introduce myself. Guest guest
Hi Angie, it is so nice to meet you. My surgery is in two days. I am on the clear liquids for the next couple of days. Can't wait for the surgery so I will ACTUALLY get full hahaha. I think it's great how well your doing. I don't know about hurting you in the long run. The hair loss concerns me too, however, if we take our vitamins and eat the protien we are supposed to, that should not become a problem. Well, good luck and it was great meeting you. Guest guest
--- hi angie and welcome! im 3 months out this thursday. my sugeron had mon clear liquids for 3 weeks, then puree for another 3 weeks. the first 3 were tough even to get liquids down. trust me you wont want to even think of food yet!i lived on broth and ice pops/fudgeclces. by the pureed stage, i wanted " real " food.i would have a bite of my husbands food once in awhile. it truley depends on what your new pouch can handle. u may not belive it now but, you'll be nervous of what you want to try :0 as far a hair............i was terrified about loosing my hair. (im a part time hairdresser) i was noticing alot on my clothes or in the shower drain. what i did was wash it every other day & extra conditioner. i started to blowdry/style less and now...3months out, my hair has never been healther! not even as a kid!no loss at all anymore and honestley, i was the only one noticing the hair loss. very very very good products to use is " dove " . since my surgery, i use everything dove shampoo, condition, styling products, body wash, & mosturisers. THERE AWSOME! unfortunly they dont make a excess skin vanisher lol, my next TERROR! xoxoxoxoxox Diedre 231/177/130 10/19/2005

Icy Orange tastes just like Tang. Make sure the protein drinks are really cold. Warm protein drinks are yucky!! Lynne

Guest guest
That's great, Tammy. How's it going?? ) HUGS, Challis Hello Long time no email from me! Thought I would say hello in case you all thought I had fallen off the edge of the earth! I couldn't find the edge, so I just turned around and came home. Well, my weight has gotten the best of me. I had surgery on my left knee in February of 2004. It has really been bothering me again, only its not because of the same reason. This time it's my weight. So......I went down and joined LA Weight Loss. Today is my first of two days of basically doing a body cleanse. The had to come up with a special plan just for me because of the meds we all take! I got to speak with a certified nutritionast and doctor so that we could come up with a plan that would suit my needs and also be safe for me. I am my largest ever in my life and I thought, "wouldn't it be a wonderful suprise for my hubby when he came home in November if I were healthier and a lot lighter?" So I did it. Today has not been bad, just trying to ignore those cravings for chocolate and anything with sugar in it! Wow, those are powerful cravings! But I've been a very good girl. I am ashamed to say that I am 100 pounds overweight I went from a size 16 to a size 24 in a year. My goal is to lose that 100 pounds and get down to a size 14 at least. The girls at the store said losing 100 pounds is going to put me in a smaller size than 14, but I didn't want to have an unrealistic goal. So, if I get smaller than that, then it will be a bonus. I need to get healthier. I truly believe that better eating habits and shedding a lot of this weight will make me feel tons better! I know for sure my self esteem will rise. I hate the way I look and am gonna fight to change that. I also believe that doing this will improve things with my marriage. Although no longer complains about my weight, I feel like I'm an embarrasment to him. Who really wants to take a whale out to dinner? My depression has spiraled out of control due to going back on the Rebif, going to Kuwait, and my weight. So I have set out to fix the major contributing factor to all of this which is my weight. Sorry to bore you all to death! I just wanted to share in case any of you have been thinking about doing something to get healthier as well. I will keep you all updated as to my progress. I kept a pair of skinny jeans and will get them out of the box so I can look at them everyday. When I can wear them, I will take a pic and share with you all! Peace, love, joy and blessings to the group. Tammy, Tx

Tammy, Tx
Guest guest
I have lost a whole 2 pounds so far, it has been over 2 weeks. I have laryngitis today I think. I know it is from the horrible weather change and then DH turned the AC on and it wasn't needed at night. Victorya has been ill also, and DH says it is his allergies but I know it is a cold. Just as soon as this goes away I am going to hit it hard. Back to the diet is a hard thing to do when your not feeling good. Always, Smyelin groovy wrote: Good *luck* . How's it going??
