> Yesterday a young high school senior (cheerleader) from the area

recieved a liver transplant at U of I Hospitals. The young girl

became depressed and overdosed on Tylenol and collapsed earlier in

the week. She was rushed to the hospital but they were not able to

save her own liver and she was transplanted with a new liver (source

unknown).

> After hearing of this my first thoughts was of Steve who is

currently on the list. I also thought of this young girl and her

family. How sad to see a young person become so depressed they try

to commit suicide. I also thought of all those who must succumb to

psychological testing to see if they are fit to be listed. In this

young girls case this could not be done. To save her life the

transplant was needed. Now she will have to take the antirejection

drugs the rest of her life. With these drugs she also risks

chemical/drug depression from these drugs.

> Does anyone have any statistics on the number of liver transplants

due to chemical/drug poisoning of the liver each year? I'm just

curious. Let's keep this young girl in our thoughts and prayers.

She has a long road ahead of her to be saddled with this. Any

comments?

Mike there is always HOPE. I have multiple psych disorders. You would

not know it if you met me. I have been thru hades and back and I

never attempted suicide, even though I have the worst form of

depression on the Beck scale. I have also been thru a multitude of

ERCPs (11) and although I wasnt particularly happy with some of them

I was a trooper and maintained an even temper thru every one of them.

I think everyone is different...every outcome is different. I know

some amazing transplantees who most would think should have been

written off and they are very compliant with their meds and seem to

be on the straight and narrow.

Hopefully that young teenager will be in therapy for the rest of her

life and she will be OK.
