Guest guest
Broth: I make chicken broth via the recipe fot the intro soup in BTVC, strain it, cool in fridge, scrape off and discard the fat layer on top. Then I measure out 1 c into each of several containers and freeze. When frozen, pop it out of the container and store the blocks in freezer bag. Mint: peppermint tea is legal and very good. (also spearmint I think). Also frontier makes a legal peppermint flavoring which I have used in teh dairy free ice cream recipe. -- Sue, mom to Adam and
Guest guest
Hi , Yes, ma'am, you have to make your own broth. No commercial goop, they are full of illegals. I keep the bones after I bake a chicken and toss them in a freezer bag. When I have enough I will throw the works on a large cookie sheet and brown them in the oven. After they've browned I put them in the largest pot I have and fill with water and simmer for hours. If you have a crock pot, that will make wonderful broth. You can add celery, onions, garlic etc. to flavour the broth, but I usually leave it plain. I like to boil it down a fair ways so it will take up less room in the freezer. You can do the same with beef bones, pork bones, turkey etc. Are you looking for a legal gum? If so, there isn't one. If you want candy I think some make the lollipop/candy recipe in BTVC with legal peppermint extract. Sheila, SCD 36 mos UC 20 yrs mom of SCD 21 mos ----- I have 2 questions. I'd like to make some soups, mostly for myself, don't see the kids eating them but you never know. would, I bet. Anyway, the recipes often call for " veg broth " or " chicken broth " . How do you all keep this on hand? Do you make it somehow, and keep it around? If so, how exactly? Or can you buy this, legal? Just wondering. Also, again for me and not kids, I miss mints. Is there a sugar free mint that is legal? Guest guest
Just the bones? Do you have to separate the fat from the bones? > I keep the bones after I bake a chicken and toss them in a freezer bag. Guest guest
Hi , Nope. I throw in fat, meat, bones, whatever is left over. If there seems to be a lot of fat in the broth after simmering, I first let it cool a little then put in in the freezer. The fat will come to the top so that you can skim it off. If you leave it until it freezes you'll have to pull it off. Then you are left with pure beautiful broth. Sheila, SCD 37 mos UC 20 yrs mom of SCD 22 mos Just the bones?
