Guest guest
, I had several people in my life who were not very supportive. I had to keep remembering that they were not the ones with the weight problems. It's easy to make judgements on others. I found it to be a very personal decision. I cried all the way to the OR, I just knew that I was doing the best thing for my kids. They need a mother who is active and not an embarassment. Keep up the good spirits. Guest guest
, It is a hard decision!! I really struggled with it. I am glad I did it, for me it was the right decision. Has your friend lost weight? What kind of problems did she have? Most of people I have talked to that have had problems would still have this surgery even with the problems they have had. I'm sorry she did this. I think she just cares about you and doesn't want you to have the same problems she had. Just remember everybody is different. Guest guest
I just joined this group and this message seemed to jump out at me. I had WLS 18 months ago. I work occasionally with someone who had it long before me. A few months after her surgery she was telling everyone that she regretted having it, that she had lost her best friend, FOOD. Months and months later she had " changed her tune " as the weight tumbled off and her health dramatically improved. Maybe your " friend " just hasn't dealt with the psychological issues surrounding food. People kill me thinking they know what's best for others... the average WLS patient usually spends 18 months researching the surgical interventions! Or, she just wants someone to be as miserable as she is! Good luck to you! Guest guest
I just joined this group and read this message also. I have my WLS 2 months ago and yes at first I thought what the heck have I done to myself, but now I know that it was the best decision for me. My Mom had the surgery 15 mos ago and she has had some complications but that didn't stop me. It's a personal decision and it sounds like your friend hasn't dealt with the psych. part as Phyllis said. Don't let your friend talk you out of this if you feel like it's the best thing for you. Good luck! Guest guest
Phyllis, GREAT answer!!! Like your friend I also miss my friend food. But then I look in the mirror or go shopping and remember food isn't my friend. Guest guest
It's awesome how much more free time I have on my hands when my mind is not consumed by food. Whether it's what the next meal will be or what I am eating. I feel myself breaking free of this prison of food. Finally! heather wrote: Phyllis, GREAT answer!!!
