Guest guest
I am still confused.... does the 90 day certification period apply only to outpatient therapy and CORF's? Only to Part B Medicare (outpatient and in SNF) , or to all Medicare A and B. I work in an SNF, primarily with Part A we now do certifications and recertification's every 30 days. Will this change to every 90 days? Thank you for any clarification you can provide. Guest guest
Noreen, The 90 certification period is for therapy services reimbursed under Part B Medicare benefits. This is for outpatient therapy services provided in all settings. Under SNF Part A, it is the physician that certifies and re-certifies for all services that the patient requires in a covered Part A stay. The timeframe for the physicians initial certification is as soon as possible upon admission. The first recertification must occur within 14 days and then subsequent recertifications must be made at intervals not exceeding 30 days. Read Section 40.2 and 40.4 of the link below. http://www.cms.hhs.gov/manuals/downloads/ge101c04.pdf It is not required that therapists have the physician sign a separate a plan of care in addition to the plan of care that the physician develops that includes all servcies provided. For the reference to the above statement, please read the bottom of page 112 and top of page 113 on the link below. http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/01jan20071800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/200\ 7/pdf/07-5506.pdf Rick Gawenda, PT President, Section on Health Policy & Administration APTA --- Noreen V wrote: > I am still confused.... does the 90 day > certification period apply only to outpatient > therapy and CORF's?
