Guest guest
: I've been around plagio for 3.5 yrs now & never heard of a band or helmet hindering a child's development in any way. I'm sure she'll crawl any day now - then there's nooooooooo stopping her Debbie --- In Plagiocephaly , " sjswartout " <sswartout@h...> wrote: > My daughter was in treatment from 4-6 months. Guest guest
, I've never heard of a band delaying milestones. Most are so light and like second skin to kids. My daughter rolled over for the first time the day after she got hers and proceeded to learn to crawl and walk while wearing her bands. She wasn't slowed down at all! I'd ask your ped if you're worried, but I'm sure she'll be all over the place before you know it. , mom to Hannah, DOCgrad Cape Cod, Ma --- In Plagiocephaly , " sjswartout " <sswartout@h...> wrote: > My daughter was in treatment from 4-6 months. Guest guest
Hi , Not all babies crawl, some go straight to walking. Bands and helmets don't interfer with a baby's development. Is she reaching her other milestones on time? My youngest baby who didn't have plagio and therefore wasn't banded will be a year old on 4/1 she just started crawling this past Saturday. She's not on all fours but almost. --- In Plagiocephaly , " sjswartout " <sswartout@h...> wrote: > My daughter was in treatment from 4-6 months. She graduated the > beginning of October 2003. Guest guest
, it sounds like she just needs more time. Does she spend much time on her tummy? The more time she spends playing on her tummy, the stronger she will get and then be able to crawl. Maybe she doesn't need to crawl? My meaning with this is, my oldest daughter didn't have to crawl or walk to get somewhere. Someone was always carrying her, she reached these milestones much later than my youngest 2. She didn't wear a band, nor did she have plagio or tort. My youngest, the plagio queen of our family, crawled, but not for long because she was walking good at 10 months. Give her time and if your really concerned, ask your ped. Dustie --- In Plagiocephaly , " sjswartout " <sswartout@h...> wrote: > My daughter was in treatment from 4-6 months. Guest guest
Actually what I have learned also about the back to sleep campaign is that most children are now expereincing a 2 month delay in major milestones. All though crawling may not always be consdierd a major or essential " milestone " there are a lot more children now who are crawling later (2-3 months later then when they slept on their stomach) and many more now then ever, that actually skip crawling. So along with flat heads, since the back to sleep campaign there is now almost a new time frame when things are being met. --- In Plagiocephaly , " sjswartout " <sswartout@h...> wrote: > My daughter was in treatment from 4-6 months. Guest guest
That is so interesting about the 2-3 month delay. I would like to learn more about that. Can you tell me where to find that information, or where you found it? Guest guest
Tummytime builds muscle tone. If they don't experience tummytime, then they don't have the strength to hold themself up to crawl, another fine reason for tummytime and not just for helping with plagio. Also, most often if a baby never crawls because of strength issues, the next good time to build these same muscles are typically when they begin to swim. This was brought up several times at our plagio Seminar at CranialTech. Tummy time is VERY VERY important for a bunch of things. Think about it, if they never crawl, then more than likely they won't climb very well or climb at all. They just don't have the strength to pull themselves up. Does that make sense? Guest guest
Thank you everybody for your input. It sounds like I need to just hang in there a bit. Jillian didn't have much tummy time when she was wearing the headband from 4-6 months. I tried but she screamed. She isn't a child who gets tired screaming if she wants to make her point so I would give in after a few minutes. However, she has had lots of tummy time in the past 4-5 months. She holds her chest and head up good. She is also kind of bottom heavy so maybe that is playing a part. I will keep you posted! Thanks again, Swartout > > > My daughter was in treatment from 4-6 months. She graduated the > > > beginning of October 2003.
