Guest guest
From doing research, I have so far found that more people that have the band end up having the bypass in the end. I pray that the bypass will work better for you. I have never had it, I just had the bypass, so I really do not know anything about the experience. Best wishes. I was wondering if anyone in this group has had a similar experience? Any input would be very helpful to me at this point. Thanks, Tonia We are a very active support group. Guest guest
Well.... I lost wieght at first but started having acid reflux. It got so bad every time I would fall asleep acid would come out my nose. So NO that was totally out of my control. I had a slippaged which I had no control over either. Believe me I don't enjoy pain in any way, shape, or form. At this point I can't have any fluid in my band or I will not be able to sleep at night therefore I have gained back almost all the weight I lost. This has been such a emotional rollercoaster for me. Almost everybody I know that has the lap band has problems with it. I wouldn't recomend it to my worst enemy. If iI could lose weight by dieting alone I wouldn't need surgery. Some people may think I'm a failure but I beg to differ because I haven't given up yet. I'm only asking for a little bit of knowledge from people that have beeen through the same experience. Tonia > > > Hi everybody! I'm new to the group. Guest guest
I wouldnt suggest for a second that you are a failure. I come for help and not to judge. I am really trying to understand what makes the band work for some and not for others. Do you think your surgion did something wrong? Is their any reasonable explanation for the acid and would it be different with bypass? I wish you all the luck E --- Tonia wrote: > Well.... I lost wieght at first but started having > acid reflux. Guest guest
Thanks! I know a lot of people that have the band and have the same problems. I don't think the band is really good for people that have a lot of weight to lose. I'm going to see another doctor next week. He does the lap and GBP so I'm looking forward to see what he has to say. He knows I want to have GBP and thinks I should. I plan on asking him what he thinks about the reflux. I really think my esophogus is messed-up from the slippage. Anyway, I'll post on the 1st to let you know what he says. Have you had the GBP? Just curious about your experience. Guest guest
Hello Tonia, I have not had either surgery because insurance has only approved GBP and I only want the band. My reasons for wanting the band is as follows 1) My surgion does both and advised that over the short term that GBP has more drastic results but over 5 years their is no difference. 2) Everyone agrees that GBP is drastically more dangerous with a mortality rate 10 or 20 times as high. I owe it to my family to not take that extra risk. 3)It is reversible, so in worst case, I can have it removed and then do GBP. 4)I am only 100 pounds overweight. (Never thought i would say only 100). I can still excersize 2 hours a day and i have never gained more than 12 pounds in a year so I hope this will give me the push i need. 5) I have a very violent cough and i fear it could cause a leak which i believe can be serious. I hope any of you veterans will correct me if i am wrong. best regards E --- Tonia wrote: > Thanks! I know a lot of people that have the band > and have the same > problems. Guest guest
Tonia, I have the band too, and was hoping to get it off today when my surgery was supposed to be done. Boy we all sure try and try don't we? My surgery got put off, and I feel like no one is fighting for me, with my insurance company....today I got so mad...I said to myself DAMIT! I am just going to start using all the crap I bought for when I come home from surgery and see how long I can do it! These people, health care experts, companies who hold our future and health in their hands, most have no idea the roads we have been through in our lives and just the fact that we are trying to get this done, jumping through the hoops to get this done, willing to deal with the risks, SHOULD be enough for them to assist us, and NOT fight us.....some ass wipe I talked to on Friday said " I don't know why you need surgery anyway, I lost 60 pounds on my own " ....that brain child worked in billing. People who haven't walked our walk, cannot and should not talk our talk, becasue they have no idea! Anyway, I am feeling pretty angry tonight...I put togeather everything that has transpired from June 2005 when I began this process, in cronological order...7 pages long, and I have 4 inches of letters, faxes, reports and so on to back it all up....but...how much fight do I have to do???? I am tired of fighting...I just wanted something that could help me.....but, the longer they leave me without a verdict (that's really what it is), then the angrier I am getting.....Dr.'s took me off my asprin, changed my other medications, for the surgery, now that they screwed up the paperwork, I don;t even get a call from the Dr. with some concern, like " Sue you better begin your meds again " ...no one cares....it is just a big money making industry...ok thanks for venting all. - In GastricBypass-LOSERS , Darcy <dee_mitchell@y...> wrote: > > Failue, IMO, is not getting back up and trying something else. > > " heather o.
