Guest guest
Well, we have it. Colin is wearing it now. It is alot of coverage versus some of the bands I see. I was disappointed in that, but really have no choice around here. Some questions, and I am sorry to brief but my poor little guy is restless with teething and now this. 1. Carseat: any adjustments? The orthotist loosely explained and gestured to bolster a bit behind the shoulders and it seems uncomfortable when I just tried it in the bouncy seat to see how it might work. His head will be too forward with the bulk of the helmet on his occiput. He alreadt lifts away from it sometimes. It seems alomost like I need to recline/tip the whole set up back a bit but is that safe to do? Changes the level that is " required. " Hope I am making sense. His helmet rides very low over his brow, especially when sitting, which will be a problem in the car again. Pushes forward from the occiput and I noticed as he chews his fingers it does this with his mouth opening. The ortho did grind it down here but says part of the critical fit is to anchor it there anteriorly and at the occiput posteriorly. He also said he expects to hear from me first thing Mondat am! I guess folks call with questions all the time after a day or two! F?U is Thurs. Gotta run, Bud is crying. mish
Guest guest
Hi Mish, I'm glad Colin has his band. I wouldn't tilt his carseat any more than recommended for safety reasons, but you can by head supports for older babies that have a section that comes over the shoulders. You can also use those neck roll things. Hannah gets a flopped forward head sometimes too, but she did without the band as well. As far as the band being low, it should be okay as long as it isn't interfereing with his vision or leaving red spots that don't fade within the hour. Guest guest
Thanks for responding. I was worried about the low riding on the forehead. The orthotist was empathetic but did explain that it is a point of anchor for it, along with the suboccipital area, to keep it stable. I nurse, as well, and I just feel like I am putting pressure on it in various ways. It has been a good test, as he does have a bit of a red in a few areas after I removed after nursing and a nap (we were told napping is okay since he naps alot and it would be impossble to do the hour on/off). All redness was gone within an hour, maybe 15 mins or so, really. I was not given a timeline like that. It is helpful. We are up to two hours today, and it so happens he has napped for a couple of those sessions, so it is a good test for me to see that he sleeps okay in it and check his skin. I guess it has to have a tiny bit of room, in order for growth to occur. We got a digital camera this week(finally-been shopping forever) and we need to take before pics right away, so we can post them for folks to see. mish > > Well, we have it. Colin is wearing it now. Guest guest
Hey Mish! Glad to see things are going OK with the helmet! Nate's moves around a little as well when he lays down, but just make sure it's not coming down over his eyes. Our ortho said to really watch the first few days to make sure Nate is still using his periferial vision, as that is a sign that the helmet is too low or too close on the sides. Nate's helmet was also very low when he first put it on, so the ortho shaved off a little and made it into an " M " shape. Since I can't seem to post one, I'll email you a picture. This way Nate has better vision, but there's still the holding power in between the eyes. As for laying down or in the car seat/swing/bouncer seat, the ortho said if the helmet is pushing forward to fold a towel or blanket behind the baby's shoulders, as that will make room for the helmet in behind the head. Hope that makes sense! Mom to Nate (7 Months) Hanger Cranial Band (5-14-2004) > > > Well, we have it. Colin is wearing it now. It is alot of > > coverage > > > versus some of the bands I see.
