Guest guest
Hi , I'm a registered dietitian and have had to help people with this issue before. Don't opt for the soda if you can help it. Do you like milk? If so add in a couple glasses of Carnation Instant Breakfast into your day and see if that doesn't help first. If that doesn't nudge your weight up. Then add in ice cream as a snack also. Things that you have used milk in, try using cream. Milk is considered the perfect food (that is why babies drink it) It has the most nutritional bang for the buck. R.D., L.D. Ok, I have a problem. I have always been very thin but I saw a picture of myself the other day and scared myself. I am 5'7 " and weigh 100lbs on a good day. I dropped down to 98 when I was sick a week back. Now I have always been thin but seeing that picture got me thinking and now I am asking around. If I see someone I think is extremely thin I will ask them how tall they are and how much they weigh. No one compares to me. So it is bothering me more and more, I am thinking of myself as this thin sickly thing. What do you guys know? in AZ

I told my dh I am going to start drinking a soda a day to see if that helps but really that is not the best option. I eat really healthy and low carb only because I don't like carbs. I've always been a carnivore. I'm racking my brain to figure out what I can add to my diet to *gain* weight but I don't want to eat trash. I am on 2 grain of Armour after a complete thyroidectomy. Some days I split my dose and other days I take it all in the morning or all at night. Just depends on how my day is running. Guest guest
Jamy could you please explain to me what thyroid intolerant means? I would like to learn what you mean by that and why the adrenal disfunction didn't allow you to lose weight. Thanks Patti Sue PS...I am battling so badly with the last 15 - 20 lbs...I just can't get rid of it...maybe this would pertain to me. I just switched over to Isocort from Enzymatic Therapy adrenal support...hoping for the best with that. Any help would be so appreciated. Guest guest
I don't really understand it, other than because my aldosterone and renin was so low, I couldn't increase my thyroid meds and what I took even though it was Armour never made me feel well. Since I have been on the Florinef, I am starting to feel better. I have such a long way to go to be well from not being treated for the adrenal issues. 15 or 20n pounds if you already had been losing is different. I had been put on a 600 calorie a day liquid fast with no other food and I was 260 pounds. I lost 15 total in 13 week. That should be impossible to only lose that. Even with all the test results that showed my low adrenal function, no one treated it because I was fat. I am finding out many obese people have severely fatigued adrenal issues. By the way, low ferritin can cause the same thing. Yup! When I went through Basic Training in 1981, I noticed the models gained weight (and lots of strength) and those of us with a bit extra, lost the weight. And in my group at least, not a one of us had our periods for two months, until after basic training stopped. It took me about another four months after basic training before I got my period again. Basic Training will get a person in the best shape of their lives...unless they get injured. Gentle
Guest guest
, I think you are wise to not eat junk just to gain weight. It is really horrible for hypo's. Good animal protein with complex carbs from veggies and fruit is a good diet. Grains are not as good for us and help disturb our hormonal balances. Just read mercola.com. Maybe your weight will even out as you get optimized on Armour. As Topper says multi-dosing would be better if you can manage it. But it appears you really have a lot to take of. Guest guest
Yes, that's what I learned from Weston A Price Foundation and realmilk.org! Re: Weight problem?? Organic, raw, grass feed cow's milk is probably one of the best things you can drink. It is not hard to digest since it is not pasturized which kills all the enzymes, changes its chemical components so that the calcium is not bioavailable. There is a real movement back to traditional, organic, and raw foods. Raw cheese is another good choice. deborah Re: Weight problem?? > Hi , > > I'm a registered dietitian and have had to help people with this issue > before. Don't opt for the soda if you can help it. Guest guest
Please, please don't either of you go away or become quiet or anything. It's so hard communicating on the internet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that hurt feelings can be soothed and things can work out, because I am 100% certain that you both meant very well. Guest guest
, did you read about high glycemic foods? It must be frustrating for you to be so thin and observing that you look so bad. Guess you did inherit your Dad's genes. But you can't discount that you feel good--that's good!! Check out the Glycemic list. Janie > well. Guest guest
Ok, mom is short, 5'4 " and kinda dumpy. She has other issues(on prozac, etc.) so who knows what her true weight should be. She was hypoglycemic and put on blood pressure medicine as well. This was when she was 40 and that was 10 years ago. I have not talked to her since. Maternal g-pa was short, round an alcoholic and committed suicide when mom was 16. Obviously not well. Maternal g-ma is VERY thin but that could be due to not eating, smoking 3 packs of cigarettes a day and unlimited coffee. Dad from what I am told was over 6 ft tall, thin and looked like a plains indian. So yes up until now I just figured I have those skinny genes......but this picture scared me. I don't want to look like my grandma (death warmed over). I feel great. I don't have any sibs, aunts and uncles are all of average build and health. Nothing too exciting. Maternal Great grandparents were in their 70s or 80s when they died. Exercise would probably be great. At least give me some form, but it is highly unlikely that I could get out of the house to do it. I am very busy. Any other ideas? in AZ > , tell us about your biological family. Guest guest
LOL........I used to eat a rootbeer float everyday. Sometimes two!! I only stopped recently because by the time the kids are in bed I'm ready for bed not ice cream. This is funny. When I first started on Synthroid after my thyroidectomy I went from 110 to 100 and we were very worried. My internal medicine doc assumed there must be something wrong with my absorption so he sent me to the dietician. The dietician said I am fine but I needed to eat more fatty foods. His first suggestion was to eat a big bowl of ice cream everynight. I said " I do. " He said eat lots of butter, milk, cheese. I said " What about my cholesterol? " " Do you want your cholesterol checked? " Helloooooooooo!!!! Why is all that fat good for me but not for others? I don't get it. I do eat all of those things, and in abundance!! I'm not super fond of milk. The white water I can get here in AZ is hardly worth drinking for nutritional purposes. I do like raw milk and we would drink it if we could get it. Maybe I will do the instant breakfast thing. I jsut fear it will fill me up and I will skip meals! LOL Plus I love my water, not sure if I can part with it! Anything else? I already eat " fat " . katie in AZ > Hi , > > I'm a registered dietitian and have had to help people with this issue > before. Don't opt for the soda if you can help it. Do you like milk? Guest guest
, Hope you don't mind. I'm just curious. Are you a foster mom, do daycare or are these your children. I have a friend who had seven children in eleven or twelve years. Once when she only had five, a neighbor reported her to the Dept of Health and Human Services for operating an unlicensed daycare ( big LOL). She showed the agent their birth certificates and that was the end of it....... well, not quite, we all still get a chuckle out of it from time to time! Then more cookies etc. after dinner for dessert...and more Tang or kool- aid....no wonder I am having such a hard time weaning myself away from sugar - it constituted 90% of my diet growing up!
