Guest guest
Welcome Ben, I would highly suggest finding the course “Spanish for the Healthcare Provider” at most colleges. Also, “Spanish for Law Enforcement” would also help (though, not as much) and would be a good add-on. Being in TX, I do highly recommend it. Good luck in your course. Schadone, NREMT-Paramedic City of Austin Austin/ County EMS Medic 12 / Medic 24 @... hi all hey ya Im a 19yr old from galveston county who is going through the EMT-basic course and i was wondering if there where any courses like spanish or anything along thoose lines that might help me get a job after I complette the course? Guest guest
Hey, if you really want to be a good EMT or Medic. Always treat your patient, like if it was your mother or father on the stretcher. Give them the respect that they deserve and expect from us so we can show everybody that EMS is making a diffrence.I don't care if my patient is the homeless around the corner, the drunk driver who just caused an accident or the sweet and old little lady. WHEN THEY ARE IN THE BACK OF MY BOX, THEY ALL GET THE BEST TREATMENT AND THAT'S WHAT WILLIAMSON COUNTY EMS IS ALL ABOUT. good luck my friend. Guest guest
Agreed. I have this standing fear that if I have a heart attack (or anything else bad) I'll be cursed by getting that one crew that we've always known or heard about (and dread seeing) instead of this guy at WCEMS. I always keep a mental wishlist of who I want coming after my family and who I DON'T. I wish there weren't any that belong on the " don't call " list but I've unfortunately seen some. Guest guest
I agree with you 100%. I've been a patient and I expect high quality care. I treat all my patients as if it were my family member in the back of the ambulance with me. High quality care is a standard around here. At least with me and those I work with. Guest guest
So true! In our area we have not only the City Fire and Medical but three private services and one gov't contract service, so we never know who we are going to get when the need arises. I worry about the ones I don't know more than the ones I do. I kind of like to be taken care of by someone I know rather than someone I don't. A. , NREMT-P/LP Re: hi all Agreed. Guest guest
I have a true story related to Emergency! One of thehe transport ambulances used in the show was loaned to the show by was the first " milk truck " ambulance manufacturer Modulance in Grand Prarie. After the show was cancelled, the ambulance used to transport Gage and DeSoto's patients was brought back to Texas and sold. Baumgardner Funeral Home (the first EMS service I ever worked for) bought the ambulance and it was the first ambulance I ever worked in. It was called the 'Hollywood car. " It was a Chevy chassis (69-71) and had 5 rotating beacons on the roof of the box (4 little ones in each corner and a big one in the center). It also had a Twin Sonic. I talked to Baumgardner many years ago and he said they had the unit remounted once and then sent to salvage. I told ny Gage this year in Palm Springs about it and he couldn't believe it. He had tried to find the ambulance to buy and restore and we tried to track it down--but it no longer existed. It seemed, the actors and crew would use it to run around for lunch and such with the lights and sirens on during breaks from filming. Small world isn't it. If this stuff interests you should buy Jim Page's book " The Paramedics " which details all of this. I believe it is still in print. I have to talk with Jim later this week and will find out whether it is still in print. Randy has some Emergency! Guest guest
Byran, When I worked for Mid-Cities Ambulance we had an old box with rotating beacons on each corner. I was told that this was the box used in the Emergency Show. It had been remounted on a f-350 truck which by the time I worked out of this box had a ton of miles on it. Had a nasty green interior in the back. The last time I saw the unit was at Dan 's property he had down on Lake Whitney. I am not sure where it is now.
