Guest guest
I never had anyone actually come up and say something rude but I consider stares and whispers to be rude, you know? Just come up and ask if you are curious. Natasha > Hi all, I'm wondering what rude people or comments you've come > across. No one has said anything rude to us at all. Guest guest
Hi Deb Here is the one that I remembered and probably will never forget. A German lady at a mall acted like she saw a ghost, and commented OH MY GOD - WOULD YOU LOOK AT THIS BABY - I WONDER WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. Very loudly and very rude. lol Thank goodness I'm a very blunt person and you can't hurt my feelings unless I care about you. I replied that there wasn't a darn thing wrong with her and what she had on her head was a helmet. With that I walked away. Other than that I just got either staring or people asking me about it and I enjoyed to be able to talk about her condition b/c most people are more curious. I don't think they want to be rude. Guest guest
I really haven't had anyone make rude comments so far, just one woman who wouldn't quit staring. She finally moved after my husband started glaring at her, lol. Most people just ask what it's for or ignore it completely. Guest guest
Hi Deb, Well, we've gotten a little of everything in our 8 months of banding, lol, though most have been positive. Adults staring and pointing and whispering bugs me, but not the kids. I've had one person ask Hannah when she was about 5 mos old if her mom dropped her on her head. Many people have asked " what is wrong " with her rather than asking why she wears a helmet, but they mean well usually. I've had lots of people think it was a seizure helmet or think she's had surgery or falls down alot. One lady stopped me and said, " is your son retarted, " boy did that lady get a piece of my mind after I was able to close my mouth and put a thought together at how blatantly rude she was (plus Hannah was dressed head to toe in pink and had butterflies all over her helmet, which said her name in pink as well!). It really made me feel bad for families who do have a child w/special needs b/c I'm sure this lady is just as tactful w/them! Another lady who really ticked me off was this lady who literally stalked us in the grocery store and stared at us. Finally when my husband was putting groceries in the car she drove up to me (stalked us all the way into the parking lot) and said " i see your baby is very sick, Jesus can heal, " etc etc and proceeded to plug me w/her church info. Religion aside, I didn't think it was very tactful to say the least. I don't remember exactly what she said, but she wasn't doing it nicely and was obvioulsy just trying to push her church on us. I just told her my baby was fine and we already had a church! , mom to Hannah, DOCband #3 3/30 Cape Cod, Ma > > --- In Plagiocephaly , " Debbie " <dblynn1@y...> wrote: > > Hi all, I'm wondering what rude people or comments you've come > > across. Guest guest
On a bad day a woman asked me regarding my son, " What happened to him? " I replied, " his head is deformed " I guess she then felt badly because she offered to carry his twin sister and her car seat to our car for me - I accepted. On an even worse day when I left the office crying after a scan, three total strangers offered support. One stopped me in the hall to say it's all worth it, another hugged me in the parking garage, and the garage gate attendant said " God bless you " (though he did take my money).
