I use to be the same way too! They said it was because of my age and that I never had children. That is life I guess. But, I don't have the problem anymore no breast it will be a year coming up soon since my last Mastectomy.

I want to welcome Lili also! Welcome to the group! I sounds like you have been through a lot. I hope you are able to find the information that you need to understand lymphedema a little better. I can ask my doctor tomorrow when he comes to check on me if you want, just let me know? Maybe he can explain to me or maybe he will get online and explain it he does almost everything I ask these days within reason of course.

Lili, my name is Ronda and I am currently still fighting cancer I am stage IV and currently in the hospital as we speak. This group is the best! They are a group of loving, encouraging and giving and I love each one of them. Just keep writing and ask all the question you need if they don't know the answers they will find them for you. Welcome, I hope we will hear more from you soon.

Hugs,Ronda

Hi friends,

I'm new here & my story follows.

In March of this year, I saw my gynecologist. Then, in April I had a

mammogram. Nothing was found !!

In July, I felt a lump. An ultra-sound & needle biopsy found cancer.

In August, I had a lumpectomy & 2 tumors were found. Luckily, the

sentinel nodes (2) were clear. This was followed by radiation for 7

weeks...just finished this week.

After about 5 weeks of radiation, my upper arm seemed to ache & look

a bit swollen. The doctor had me see a physical therapist.

Presently, doing massages 1-2 a day, exercises, and wearing a sleeve

for " possible " lymphedema.

I searched the archives for " lymphedema " , but nothing came up. Is

that possible ??

Anyway, I'll be seeing the oncologist later this month to find out

what the next step will be...tamoxifen or something else.

Mammograms never showed anything & the docs say that it was because I

have " dense " breasts. So, wonder why I'm supposed to continue to

have mammos which show nothing !!

many thanks for your comments & help,

Lili

If you go to this site you can learn about arm lymphedema. (I am

also seeing a physical therapist and must get a compression sleeve &

glove.)

Welcome to the group. I'm Pam-13 year survivor of Inflammatory breast cancer.

You can get some great info about lymphedema at http://www.lymphnet.org.

I have a mild case of lymphedema and it is something you need to take care of right away.

My cancer was dx 15 months after a mammogram that showed only dense breast. I was 37 and 5 1/2 months pregnant at the time. The type cancer I had is very rare and often doesn't show on mammos or ultrasounds. Anyway, I was in a study at MD , had MRM and chemo while pregnant. I have been very blessed. My son will be 13 this week and I have been fine too.

Hi Lili,

Welcome to the club!! I too had nothing show up in a mamogram

because I was also told I had " dense " breasts. My oncologist told

me that for people who have had cancer and not found in a mamo, your

insurance will pay for MRI's which have a better track record for

finding cancer in younger women and women with dense breasts.
