I am trying to get feed back on if people feel that joining WW and

attending meetings helps them stay OP.

I have been doing WW at home on my own- have not joined as I have

everything I need to do it on my own. I am just trying to figure out

if the support from meetings makes a big difference. Also I weigh on

my own scale at home which weighs to the .5 lb.

I appreciate any input/advice anyone might have.

For me - yes - attending WW meetings outside my home helps me stay OP. I

have tried so many times to do WW on my own and just like any other " diet " I

have tried on my own I never succeed. It makes me accountable to go every

Wednesday. I always do really well when I go to the meetings, it is when I

have to stop going to the meetings because of scheduling that I end up not

being OP and I gain my weight back.

I think this is different for different people. I find going to the

meetings tremendously

motivational - it reminds me that I'm not in this alone, and I usually

get a good tip

or two out of the meeting. The accountability is also very important to me.

My wife, on the other hand, just goes for her weigh-in (accountability),

but rarely

stays for the meeting. She finds the meetings to " saccharine " , too

upbeat, too hokey.

I started WW this time on-my-own (I knew what to do, because I've been

there before), and

I lost 25 pounds - but when I started feeling comfortable, I knew I had

to go back to meetings

as an additional motivcational and accountability tool.

I think it's a personal choice, Tammy. Tory was able to get all the

way to goal without meetings. I need the " accountability " of

weighing in front of someone else.

There *are* interesting topics at the meetings, but you can read

about these on Dotti's boards if you don't go to the meetings.

If you're doing it alone and it doesn't seem to be going the way

you'd like, by all means, give meetings a try. If you're doing it at

home and it's working great, I'd say you don't need meetings. :)

I think it depends on the leader and the other members who attend. I

think I've gone to every meeting offered here (about six). The Saturday

morning meetings are the absolute BEST. The leader has lost 30 pounds and

is so spunky! I would put her at maybe early 30's or somewhere in this age

range. There are two meetings in the morning and both are packed. The

members are inspired by this leader who is a hoot (and a half)! She's

witty, caring, fun... etc. She really encourages group participation and

gets it.

For what? Well, suggestions for low point snacks, what a favorite meal

might be... She even collected recipes from members, made photocopies and

keeps these all in a big ring binder. Anyone can look through the binder

and take a copy of whatever recipe they want. Also, she doesn't just read

from the weekly meeting script like other leaders might.

I had my hours cut back at work (down to 32 with full time status), so I've

been doing this at home lately. I miss the weekly meetings, but I do find a

LOT of support on this list. The POP challenge is awesome. For some

reason, I don't want to disappoint my team members. Maybe subconsciously I

am used to disappointing myself, so cheating and not counting points, etc.,

wasn't a big deal. For instance, I bought the Smart Ones round ice cream

sandwiches last night AND a box of the Smart Ones regular ice cream

sandwiches. I ate (and wrote down) a round one after I mowed the grass and

before I started making supper. An hour after supper, I had a regular one

(wrote it down too). Yes, the thought occurred to me that I wanted to eat

ALL of them!!! Every single last one. But I didn't. I even had points

left that I could have eaten a couple more round ones... but I didn't. :D

I would suggest joining (save $$ when registration is free) on a Monday...

and try to attend additional meetings that week to see if any particular

leader seems to spark the members. Maybe even go for a month (everyone has

off days). If you don't care for it, don't go back. (But stay here!!)

Dear Tammy,

Although I get a lot out of this group here, I am attending WW meetings,

too. I have started WW and quit after 3 or 4 weeks in the past. But this

time I want to prove that the system works and stick with the meetings, I

want to be a lifetimer. I bought a 10 week package to make sure I keep

going. So far, I'm glad, though I get picky about how things are done in

meetings: didn't get a bookmark when I weighed in my first 5 lbs lost,

and last week the dear substitute leader wrote my START weight instead of

my WEIGH IN weight for the week, so now my weigh in book is inaccurate,

sheesh! those kind of things jolt my brain, but this is just another area

of my life that is out of control and so going to meetings is good

therapy for me all around. I'm learning. Just my experience so far.

It makes a big difference to me. The thing that makes a difference

to me is nothing that is said as far as lessons learned at the

meetings. The main thing is that there are people I see every

week...faces that look at me and see me get my 5 pound awards, my 10%

award, my 25 pound award. Those people have watched my weight come

off and celebrate each of my small victories. I feel as though I let

them all down if I get off program. I don't want my weigh in to come

and no one know how I did but myself. Those ladies that weigh me see

my card and know my weight. I can't lie to them like I can lie to

myself. To me, going to the meeting gives me an extra accountability

that really helps.

Hi Tammy,

I'm brand-spanking new to this. 3rd day now. I am also doing the home

program. But I feel coming on to this group is huge support for me.

I really think that this could mean the difference for me succeeding

or failing. I am pretty sure the meetings would help anyone though.

I was doing fine without meetings for a while. Had my rule book, had my

palm pilot, had my friends doing WW/

Then my work got busy and I had trouble getting to exercise class

Then I got sloppy about journalling.

Then... I started to gain.

Then, I lost my job and went through three more jobs in quick succession

(Boston-area dot-coms)

Then I pretty much completely lost the exercise habit

Then I spent those two years posting to my email friends going " not so good

this week " and " maybe next week " and " This week I'm going to just try for

drinking water " or " this week I'm just going to try for journalling... "

Finally after gaining back most of what I lost, I got fed up and joined

again.

Sure, I *think* I can do it by myself, but I ****DON'T****. This time I

think I'm in until I hit goal. And maybe when I hit goal I'll quit, but

maybe I'll shoot for lifetime and weighing in once a month to keep myself

honest.

One thing I really like about this meeting is that we have some total

beginners and some lifetime members! It is nice to get that sense of

perspective, seeing people who have actually made it.

I have gone to meetings for over a year now and I have decided to quit

going at least for the summer. I have been thinking about it for a while

now because I don't get a lot out of the meetings anymore. They are

repeating topics and I just don't have the the enthusiasm that I used

to. I realized that this list and the POP challenge are doing more for

me than the meetings are so I am going to stop going for a while and

save myself some money. I know the meetings will always be there if I

need them or if I start getting off track.

more success when I had the accountability paying an weighing in each

week. Although, this last time, I had all of last years materials and

started at home about a month before joining and I did lose weight

between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I like this POP challenge because I

don't want to be the one to let my team down. But then I guess we all

feel that way. Maybe this challenge and the support you get on this list

will be your meeting.

I agree.

I did the online WW (and still do). For some reason that was all I need

(that and all you all). I know some people just have to have the

accountability of meetings. I'm the AR type who once I commit to

something, I do it...even if I only nade that commitment to myself.
