Guest guest
Hi & welcome to our group!! Wow, it's great to hear of a ped dx'ing plagio & tort at a younger age and better to hear you already have an appt w/your neuro this Fri! Many of us wait a month or more for a neuro appt. The younger you begin a band, the better & faster the correction will be. Babies heads grow the fastest & most under 6 mos of age. And with your son having tort. repositioning would be next to impossible. Where abouts do you live? Maybe we have someone else in your area being such a huge group. For tort help, (many members will chime in as well) you can get help at www.torticollis.org Keep us posted Debbie Abby's mom MI > Hi, I'm new here. Guest guest
Welcome . Your son is a little younger than ours who started at 10 months but when we started the exercises he would also scream and fight. He was at an age where he loved songs and counting, so we had his older brother count for him, he would stay very still and smile whenever we counted to him. Whenever I would do the exercises, I would first start playing with him, singing " this little piggy " on his toes and tickling his tummy, etc. just to get him to think we were playing and then I would have his brother count and I would start the exercises. But between each exercise or when he started to fight again I would continue with the playing. He got used to it. He still struggles now and again but we get through them a lot easier. I still have to sing to him through them :-) Good luck, don't give up on the exercises, my son has had a tremendous improvement on his neck movement. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group! You are so lucky your ped is so on top of this! For so many of us here it took us months and months to finally get a diagnosis. I hope they have told you how important tummy time is, it really helps to strengthen the neck muscles. In the beginning most babies do cry during PT. It does get easier for them as time goes on. The younger a baby is banded the better and faster the correction. If you are going to band, please make sure you throughly interview the potential orthotist. Experience is a MUST, the more the better. These bands/helmets in the wrong hands can and do more harm than good. Please let us know how you make out on Friday. Don't be surpised if your specialist wants you to take a wait and see approach. Remember this is your baby and YOUR DECISION whether or not you band him. > Hi, I'm new here. Guest guest
Hi stacy, I see you have already had some wonderful replies, and I really don't have much to add, but I do want to welcome you to the group. My daughter was banded fairly early at 4.5 mos and saw amazingly fast correction. How severe do you think his plagio is? Please let us know how his appt goes on Friday--how great you were able to get in so quickly! Where are you located? My Hannah didn't have tort, so unfortunately I don't have any helpful hints. , mom to Hannah, DOCgrad Cape Cod, Ma > Hi, I'm new here. Guest guest
Hi , 3 months is usually the minimum, that is great that you are seeking treatment so early. I'm sorry to say that PT is usually rough, just remember that you aren't hurting him, just pissing him off! Good luck! Natasha > Hi, I'm new here.
