I am not sure how scarce they are in Canada, but in the US, there are only 6-8 medical groups in the whole country taking part in the trial, located predominantly on the coasts, so getting help with any problems that would result from something getting stuck would be extremely difficult. You may want to consider having the fluid taken out just to avoid any potential for a disaster while you are there. Just something to consider... Guest guest
, When you had some fluid taken out can you explain how much this altered your eating habits. Hi Nadia, I think that whether or not you have the band emptied when you travel depends pretty much on where it is you're travelling to. There are two factors to consider in this: one, the availability of medical care..... knowledgeable-about-the-band medical care, that is........ and two, the type of food/diet in the country you're visiting. If I were going to be any place where the food was likely to be unfamiliar, with the chance of causing tummy upsets, I would definitely have the band emptied. On the other hand, if I were travelling in a Western country with similar diet to our own, I probably would not. A year or so ago I travelled to Fiji and did not have the fluid removed and had no problems. I was very careful what I ate, and I have to admit that my doctor gave me the appropriate needle to take along with me in case of needing an emergency removal of fluid...... but then, my husband is a doctor so that was a little added security I guess. I wouldn't have thought that travel to the US would present a problem....... but it's a very individual decision. All the best, .
