Starband vs Docband

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has an opinion about the Starband Vs the

Docband. The orthotics place in my town that was recommended by my

son's physical therapist carries the Starband. But my son's doctor's

office recommended the Docband. I don't think they have any

experience with the Starband, though. I am not sure they were aware

that the other place carries the Starband. Is one or the other

better for treatment? Is the treatment time shorter with one? In

pictures, the Docband looks like it is less bulky, but I wonder if

that depends more on the degree of correction. The place that has

the Starband is really close to my home and the one that has the

Docband is a couple hours away. I can deal with a little

inconvenience if one is better than the other in the long run. Any

thoughts?

Hello there

My daughter was in a totally different band, but I just wanted to

add that you should interview the doc that would be taking care of

your son. They should be available at anytime for adjustments so

make sure that you can get ahold of them and that they would be

available for adjustments. I know that the DOC have their own

clinics so ...

Good luck

It may be helpful to talk with both clinics and see who you feel more comfortable with. I think there is a document in the files section that gives you some sample interview questions, but somethings you might want to ask are:

1. How long have you been treating plagio? How long have you used this particular band?

2. How many children do you treat for plagio each year? Can any of your previous patient give me any referrals?

3. How often would we be coming in for treatment? If I run into a problem before my regularly scheduled visit, what would be the procedure? If I am to see someone else at the office, do they have experience/expertise with treating plagio?

etc.

At a cranial technologies facility, all they treat is plagio. Their orthos are specifically trained in using the DOCbands so there's more consistent treatment from clinic to clinic. OrthoAmerica does not require specific training by them to use their STARbands, so it very critical that you interview your STAR orthos to determine the level of experience they have. There are many parents of children who have used both STAR and DOC bands, as well as local helmets, who have seen great results. I'd go with the place you feel most comfortable with.

Good Luck with your decision.
