Guest guest
Here's a copy of an email I recently wrote about it that includes the links and some info: I wish I could say there was a good book on this. My husband keeps telling me to write one, sheesh! Anyway, I got my original information from various sources and an article on Autism Awakening, to which the link is no longer working. But I was able to find this excerpt of it, that at least explains some of the gist of the problem, though I believe takes too harsh a stand - I think salicylates are perfectly fine for those of us that can tolerate them, they are in very healthy, flavorful foods. Anyway, here's the excerpt that helps explain a little about it: http://vitaminlady.com/Articles/ADHD.asp And here are the lists that I have to adhere to with Luke. This is very closely related to Feingold, like you said. http://allergies.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.zipworld\ ..com.au%2F%7Eataraxy%2FSalic_03.txt http://users.bigpond.net.au/allergydietitian/fi/sal.html Here are the recommendations I would make. I would drop him down to all " low " things for a good week. See if there is any change, it takes a few days to get out of his system. Then reintroduce something very high, just ONCE, and see what happens. If the bad behavior comes back, then you will know. I'm going to cut/paste what you listed, then highlight things in red that would be high. Be warned, this is going to be discouraging at first: Breakfast: carrot/zucc/squash/prune pancakes with melted honey OJ/prune combo for constipation watered down white grape juice Snacks: Peanut Butter Muffins (ingredients? honey, or cinnamon, etc would make them high, otherwise fine) jell-o (again, ingredients? type of fruit used, etc) Lunches/Dinners: ground pork or beef with pureed carrots, gr beans, spinach or zucchini and ketchup (I know that's out) chicken with garlic cooked pears mandarin oranges in own juice bananas His only beverage: watered down wh.grape juice Now, a couple of suggestions for replacements while you do this trial. The pineapple JUICE is low though pineapples are high, so watered down pineapple juice (Dole) is Luke's drink other than water. Homemade pear would be fine, too. For the pancakes, Luke's have carrots and green beans. Instead of honey he likes a spread I whipped up of equal parts yogurt and peanut butter, with a little vanilla and liquid saccharin to sweeten. That constipation protocol is going to be tough to replace. Can/will he eat cooked apples? They seem to help me with C. Golden delicious are fairly low. Thankfully Luke was willing to eat his meatballs plain last night so I'm no longer looking for a replacement for ketchup. For snacks, Luke likes bananas, peanut butter " cookies " with carrots in them, peanut butter " ice cream balls " which are just the spread I mentioned above, but use the dripped yogurt (pretty firm) instead, roll into balls, and freeze. Good luck, this salicylate problem really sucks because there goes your honey to sweeten things, but if it's a problem it sure can't be ignored. My prayer is SCD will help our kids' guts sure up till they can tolerate these things with no problem! God bless, let me hear how it goes, phenols > I'm sorry guys. I know there was a site somewhere to read up on these and their effects but I forgot where it is. Guest guest
I think needs to be on the dirt diet too. you aren't alone! Alice phenols > Thanks for the web sites girls on phenols. Great. Kenzie's diet consists of bananas and apples. He gets the occasional red ear, hyperactivity, aggressive and sometimes diarrhea. Yep, I'm in trouble. I think I'll just put him on a dirt diet because he can't eat anything that doesn't effect him. > > Penny >
