Guest guest
Let me get this straight. Boiled down prune juice is prune nectar? Mix 3 teaspoon in 1/2 cup of orange juice? Does it have to be orange juice or can the prune be mixed into the legal grape juice??? Sorry if this has been answered in prior posts! Guest guest
Hi Patti, I don't know if boiled down prune juice is the same as prune nectar, but it substitutes for the nectar which must be of greater concentration than regular unboiled prune juice. According to Elaine's constipation protocol, it's 3 TBS per 1/2 cup of Tropicana orange juice. As for putting it in other juices, I don't see why not, but I'm NOT the SCD expert. All I can think that could be a detractor is that the boiled down prune juice would have a very strong taste and the grape juice may not be strong enough to mask the taste. I'm not sure and hopefully one of the experts will know more. Take care. Becky in Chesapeake, VA with 10 yr old on SCD 3 weeks > > Let me get this straight. Boiled down prune juice is prune nectar? Guest guest
The prune nectar can be made by boiling prune juice down to half it's original volume. One cup prune juice would be boiled down to 1/2 cup prune juice. I believe it is mixed with orange juice for a reason. Some synergistic effect, but I will ask Elaine to find out whether it can be mixed with other juices and be as effective. Guest guest
The boiled down prune juice gets really thick but it does not taste bad when mixed with the OJ. I heat it up and drink it warm and I actually LIKE it! And it really does help. in NC Mom of Luke, age 5, Asperger's/salicylate intolerant/diarrhea pre-SCD; , age 3, healthy; and , 19 mos, healthy All SCD since 1/26/04 Re: Prune/Orange juice mix Hi Patti, I don't know if boiled down prune juice is the same as prune nectar, but it substitutes for the nectar which must be of greater concentration than regular unboiled prune juice. Guest guest
As long as you're only using the epsom salts occasionally... that shouldn't be an ongoing thing, I don't think. -the other Patti (mom to Katera) <<I want to thank Becky for suggesting the epsom salts as a laxitive, it worked well for my son, and for now we are moving along!>> Patti G.(Garet, 6 ) >>
Guest guest
Hi Patti G., Thanks for the thanks, I'm glad it helped your child. And yes, we only used epsom salts the first week and haven't used it since then. I also heard that the epsom salts can be habit forming so I didn't want to use it initially. We were so desperate to get his stools moving that we went ahead and tried the epsom salts which did clear him out and help him get through the intro diet without the OJ/Prune juice. I wouldn't do the intro diet again without the OJ/Prune juice combo, but that's my personal opinion based on my son's condition.
