hi all,

Mathew, I entirely, completely & wholeheartedly agree with you...not everyone

either knows, understands or can afford the lapband.

I for one when I made enquiries initially, was told to just try this

dietician, then this weight group, then this method, then a

gastroenterologist told me it's obscene to perfoem this surgery because its

merely mutilation & just to control my food intake (never mind that it's

also obscene in my books to perform lifesaving surgery/proceedures multiple,

multiple times on hardcore alcoholics or drug addicts at the taxpayers

expense, or to issue these same people with drugs that cost hundreds per

script (again via the public health system). I'm also frustrated & upset

with eating clinics who lobby everyone for money & say " oh yes, we'll do all

we can to help you...oh, you're not suffering with anorexia, oh we don't

deal eith anything else " & thats the last you hear from them until they just

want a survey completed or are asking for funds & then they suddenly ring or

write again.

Regarding discrimination, I had an appalling experience with Ansett last

year, I ended up writing a letter of complaint & recieved a letter of

apology from the PR officer, but the thing is, if I was blind, had cerebal

palsy or was in a wheelchair, the incident not only would've never arisen,

but Ansett could've been prosecuted via the anti-discrimination board.

Anyway, I think maybe it is going to come down to US to do something about

discrimination etc., against obese people, nobody else will do it.
