Thanks , I was thinking that he possibly has the " insomnia " that comes

along with hypo. There is no doubt in my mind that all of my children have it

to some degree. But he has always been bothered by that. Valerian root does

absolutely nothing for him. Two from extract knock me right out.

Maybe I should first have my doc check him..if he needs Armour..then I know it

will cure the insomnia..it did mine and everyone else that I know that is on

it.

I am so glad that your son has finally found relief. It is so frustrating for my

son..and me.

When he was going to Christian school, he had to get up at 6 am....be at school

by 8 (a 40 minute drive with my husband and daughter) then he went to school all

day...went to my husbands work after school. Got home at 7 pm ate dinner and by

10 was ready for bed. This is ONLY time in his life that I know he laid his

head down and actually fell asleep right away. Not to mention he did homework

at work and then did menial tasks there when he was done with his school work!!

When he was little if I gave him a nap past 12 noon...he was up until 12

midnight. It was terrible!!

So I think I'll check out his thyroid first....

Thanks ...any research you have I will gladly read.

Hugs Patti

My son was 21 when the doctor put him on it...and he said it can be

safe for younger people but to go slowly with it.(I had heard that at

the health food store, they would not sell it for use in anyone under

30!!) It worked for my son, but he didn't take it, like so many

things...he hated valerian root as it made him dizzy. At 150 lbs.

he's probably okay to use it. We make less and less of it as we age,

so I'm not sure that someone who has had trouble sleeping since age 5

is low in melatonin or if it's some other deficiency going on. If I

were you, I would try it and see what the 3mg does for him. If if it

helps at ifrst and then not as much after a while, the doctor

asssured me it's okay to go higher. I will see what research I have

around on it. I want to say that Armour and now cortef are the two

things that have finally allowed my son to go to sleep by 11:00 or

midnight and actually get a decent night's sleep.

Thanks ,...that is very reassuring.

Re: melatonin question

Patti,

My son, who is 10 has been on it for over a year. He started off

with 3mg but now I only do a quarter to a half of a pill due to bad

dreams. A side effect of it is you can have very vivid dreams, in

technicolor!!!! Lowering the dose helped with that, other than that

he has had no issues with it. He also weighs half what your son

does!!! It is very safe and was told you could go up to 6mg if

needed safely.

:)

I agree with you 100%, I would rather hit the nail on the head than try and

suppress symptoms with bad meds that are on the market. I want my son to have a

chance.

Yes, he has spring and fall allergies, startles easily..sometimes...not all the

time.

When he and I were reading up on the adrenals together. He noticed that he has

6 of the symptoms on the list..and has had them for ever.

I will give him licorice root tea...and maybe try him on one of the Isocort

pellets when I get them....I have to start somewhere and he is almost as big as

me...he is a stocky/muscular build boy. I weight 158 and he weighs 153. So I

think that his body weight could handle it. I will keep you up to date as to

what is going on..thank you all for your help.

to tell you the truth, it sounds a little like adrenals to me...does

he have allergies or asthma or skin problems, etc? I'll bet he needs

the B-complex vitamins and C....is he easily startled at all? I'll

bet he can use some kind of natural adrenal support. If he likes the

taste of licorice, the drops from the health food store with licorce

root are something my holistic doctor uses a lot with kids

especailly...he says it really does the trick to support adrenals.

Does he have any hypo-T signs like constipation of low temp?? I

certainly agree with thyroid and adrenal support for kids before any

kind of drugs many doctors are now giving...
